THE SUICIDE SQUAD Director James Gunn Confirms He's Working On Another DCEU Project After PEACEMAKER

The Suicide Squad writer and director James Gunn is putting the finishing touches on Peacemaker, but he's confirmed that another DC Extended Universe project is on the way in the not too distant future.

Warner Bros.' commitment to releasing its 2021 slate on HBO and in theaters simultaneously has backfired from a financial standpoint, hence why The Many Saints of Newark was the studio's latest box office flop this weekend. The Suicide Squad was the most noteworthy, of course, and you'd think that would have soured James Gunn on working with them beyond Peacemaker.

The studio does look set to return to the traditional theatrical model next year, so that could help repair their relationship with certain filmmakers (Christopher Nolan has, however, jumped ship to Universal).

Regardless, Gunn has now confirmed that he's in the process of developing another DC Extended Universe project. He's currently hard at work preparing for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, so this hopefully won't distract too much from that. If we had to hazard a guess, though, it's a project he'll fully commit to once he's finished what could be his final stint in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The Suicide Squad's poor box office performance makes a sequel unlikely, but Gunn has expressed interest in reuniting with Margot Robbie for a Harley Quinn movie. Warner Bros., meanwhile, initially appeared to want the director to take the helm of a Superman project, so perhaps Gunn's involvement could ultimately bring Henry Cavill back to the role? We'll obviously have to wait and see.

Check out Gunn's Tweet below and keep checking back here for updates.
