Margot Robbie has had a recurring presence in the DCU as Harley Quinn, and while we don't know when she'll next play the anti-hero, it's no secret that James Gunn is keen to work with her again. Helping matters is the fact that The Suicide Squad director is now in charge of DC Studios, something that could lead to a whole lot more Harley in the coming years.
Talking to ComicBook.com, the actress shared her reaction to Gunn (and Peter Safran) being enlisted by Warner Bros. to take charge of the newly formed film unit.
"I know it's crazy," Robbie said of the big changes taking place at Warner Bros. "And Peter Safran, so he was also the producer on The Suicide Squad, so I know them both really well and they're a dynamic duo. I think that's such a get for DC."
As for her future hopes for the character, it doesn't seem like she knows anything quite yet about what's next for Harley, but Robbie remains keen on exploring her comic book romance with Poison Ivy. Their relationship has been tackled in HBO Max's Harley Quinn animated series, and it's a dynamic fans remain keen to see play out in live-action as well.
"I have been pushing for that for years. I cannot tell you how hard I've been pushing for that. I want it too," she told the site before being asked if she has anyone in mind for the role. "Honestly, when I pictured, I always picture like Poison Ivy in the comics. I don't really actually picture an actress doing it, but I agree, that would be so good."
With Gunn and Safran hard at work on putting together a slate of new DC movies for the DCU, fingers crossed that a new Harley Quinn project is among them. That list of projecs in the process of being figured out, of course, and is unlikely to be unveiled until well into next year.
Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) wasn't a huge box office hit back in 2020, so perhaps the character would be better off as the lead in her own live-action TV series?
