Sites across the internet are all quoting a DC representative dismissing claims that Taylor Swift will be playing Supergirl in a movie about the Kryptonian survivor. The spokesperson has told Scotland’s Sunday Mail newspaper “That’s as clueless a thing as we’ve heard all year.”
Now presumably “all year” refers to 2009, or else the spokesperson forgot the whole new year stuff happening.
But see, this is where I’m a little baffled. What need does DC have for a Supergirl movie? The character isn’t exactly prime material in the comic universe, so apart from the males going to see her in a short skirt I can’t see a real market for a Supergirl movie.
This comes as even more of a surprise when you take into account DC’s new direction to build up to the Justice League movie, rather than starting straight out. The movies that the comic giant will get involved in are going to be focused on a JL movie, especially if they’re dealing with individual characters.
We’ll probably see a Superman movie, eventually. Green Lantern and Flash movies are in the works, and maybe Joss Whedon will accept an apology from DC and comic back and do his Wonder Woman film. Martian Manhunter, Black Canary, Gren Arrow, Aquaman and Hawkman also are possibly worthy of films.
But Supergirl?
