Sigh. I just want to say that first of all Supergirl is an ok right now. Just ok. Judging by the ratings I'm sure CBS will pick it for a full season at some point soon. The things i like about the show is that they perfectly cast Mellssa Benoist in the title role. Super cute and able to pull off wearing the costume her personality and demeanor are really on point for the character. The things I'm hopeful for the show is that at only 3 episodes in that the writers are finding their footing and the episodes will get better because quite frankly they are NOT. Usually by episode 5 or 6 you pretty much know where a series is going for the season. Hopefully it doesnt take Supergirl til episode 15 like the creators did with the first season of Arrow to really get into the meat of the show. The reason why I say the episodes aren't good is because of the CONSTANT TROPES being thrown at us each episode. I mean really! Does each character need to spell out their motivations out for the viewer to actuall GET their motivations?? If its not the repetitive superhero tropes that are constantly being thrown at you then it's the constant BROADCAST NETWORK TROPES that you have to deal with watching this type of show on CBS. I mean it's like the show is being made for you granddad's version of Superman! I get that the producers said that the vibe of the show is more based on the Christopher Reeve Superman and not the Henry Cavill Superman but my goodness give the audience some intellectual credit. There are LOADS of TV shows out there with MUCH better quality storytelling than this show. Arent we past talking down to the viewer? Do we need Superman mentioned every 5th sentence when clearly they are never going to show him?(SPOILER:When they had him show up in tonight's episode in such a rushed CGI silohette to fight Reactron that was an ultimate SMH moment for me) CBS has a brilliant show called The Good Wife which mixes the procedural element with its serialize story telling and you dont really mind it because the show is highly intelligent and enttertaining. Unfornately for Supergirl she hardly has enough lore to hold up a series. The character has essentially always rode the coattails of Superman and he hasnt always been the most interesting character to dig deep into becaus he can do everything!
If it werent for that fact that I'm sure this show will somehow crossover with The Flash I dont think I would be as invested in the show. I really hope that it gets better but the producers pretty much said the mythology will be toned down and the villain of the week will be played up. Stupid, stupid, stupid. There is only so much "girl power", dumb, typical "love triangle" and boring villains you can maintain so I hope they got some really interesting plans for the series. CBS wants this show to be accessible for everyone like its CSI, NCIS, Scorpion and many other procedurals they are so successful at. I guess thats fine for those who like that sort of thing. All I ask the producers to do is give your audience more credit and show us more sophistication. Its not a cartoon.
PS: Why does Jimmy Olsen know Superman's secret identity and why is he so loose with it in front Winn?? Are you kiddin me?? Superman trusts this guy that much to look after his cousin and he just casually says Clark in front of this guy? HE JUST GOT TO NATIONAL CITY! Highly unacceptable...
