IGN has gotten their hands on the novelization of Zack Snyder's Man of Steel, written by Greg Cox and published by Titan Books. The brief excerpt they've published covers the opening cinematics of Krypton's doom and the struggle between Jor-El (Russell Crowe), Zod (Michael Shannon) and the High Council. Also, it's revealed that Faora (Antje Traue) was known as the 'Tigress of Zod'...how Krypton knows about tigers is anyone's guess.

...The terrorist leader, whom he had once considered a friend, was accompanied by his top lieutenants. Jor-El knew them, as well—if only by reputation.

Lithe and pitiless, Faora-Ul was known and feared throughout Krypton as the “Tigress of Zod.” She stalked beside her general, wearing a predatory smile on her face. Cropped black hair matched her dark uniform and cape. Although attractive in her own fierce way, she struck Jor-El as being as vicious and violent as Lara was warm and gentle. She was in her element here, waging war and spilling blood.

Flanking them was Tor-An, a muscular, dark-haired insurgent who was known to be a cold-blooded killer without a drop of mercy or compassion in his veins. He was Zod’s favorite hatchet man, quick to get his hands dirty when the cause required it. His eyes were as cold and hard as polished obsidian. A sadistic smirk lifted the corner of his lips.

Nam-Ek, taking up the rear, was more than nine feet tall. The hulking brute was believed to be mute. His origins were unknown, but Jor-El had heard rumors of illegal transgenic experiments, possibly involving Rondor DNA. It was hard to believe that such a behemoth could be the result of random mutation, especially since births on Krypton were so strictly regulated. In any event, the giant stomped after Zod, watching his back.

More rebels poured in after him....

This is but a brief 'excerpt of the excerpt' if you will. Click the source link below to read the complete version at IGN. Titan Books' Man of Steel: The Official Movie Novelization is only $6.79 at Amazon.

Not sure how much of a reveal that is, as I thought it was fairly clear in the movie that they were long time friends, but just happened to be on opposite sides of what was going down.

I could tell in the film that there was some history between the two. Especially when Zod said something along the lines "you have lectured me for the last time" or something like that to Jor-El.

This book is awesome. You guys should buy it and those experiments' the Kryptonians were doing is one way to introduce Doomsday in the MOS universe. They could say Nam Ek was the prototype Doomie.

Hopefully on the sequel we will have more flashbacks of Krypton and more backstory. If they can do it like Godfather 2 that would be awesome!

Y'know what I didn't get? How come Faora only had one surname? Surely it'd be 2 or none, right?

"Like after basically the whole devastation of Metropolis and the power of Superman can they make MOS 2 even more EPIC?"

The question is how many years will there be between the actual events of MOS and the sequel? Are we going to see a magical renovation and restoration of a devastated city within a few months or year's period of time. Curious as to how they will approach that. I imagine Metropolis will play a heavy role in the sequel being the final scene gave us what it did.

@inhuman511

I've been thinking a lot about this. And this is just one of several possibilities I thought of:

MoS - Zod
MoS 2 - Lex (introduce Bruce Wayne as partnering with Lex to help rebuild Metropolis)
MoS 3/Man of Tomorrow - Doomsday (Superman "dies")

Justice League - Villain is the fake Superman. Entire Justice League has come together to defeat this "rogue" Superman. Great excuse for some awesome fighting amongst the league

Justice League 2 - Darkseid (Superman is revived, world is back to being skeptical of him again, but this time a true alien threat requires Superman to defeat it. Superman defeats Darkseid's army (along with the league) and the World loves him again

Justice League 3 - DOOM storyline (Due to Superman "going rogue" in JL1, Batman developed contingencies for every league member, Savage gets a hold of it and defeats the entire league initially.

KAC@ To each their own. I got way more emotional on all levels watching the Avengers. If one is familiar with the Avengers and the dynamics of the heroes coming together, Cap's struggle, etc. I was very much emotionally bought into the film. I almost had happy tears when Nick Fury was sharing dialogue with Cap during the beginning because it was bringing the reality of Cap as an Avenger and someone who could make a difference. During The Avengers, I got teary-eyed, I got on the edge of my seat, I felt jubilant, I laughed...At MOS I got on the edge of my seat to try to soak in the action scenes due to the camera work. :-p

I found the movie to be good but not great or epic so my answer is yes, they can. In some ways (editing, scripting and pacing), they certainly can't do any worse... I hope.

I like how Nam-Ek in the movie is a lot like the comic form. His condition is due to experiments with the Kryptonian Rondor. Even though Nam-Ek was a scientist who used the Rondor horn to make Krypton a better place, this origin makes sense with Man of Steel. Maybe that animal in the fields on Krypton was the Rondor.

I think the Tigress of Zod is a translation from Kryptonian. The tiger is probably the closest Earth animal to a feline on Krypton.

Last Days of Krypton rocked! I really want to see a Krypton prequel with at least the Man of Steel designs, if not Russell Crowe and Michael Shannon too.

I loved this movie. Not sure what the complaints are about, but to each their own. I mean, did people seriously want MORE background on Superman? They got down to it and still gave good back story. Plus the suit was awesome. All that being said, you can't please everyone. There were people that actually liked Superman Returns so, yeah.
