Fans of the James Bond series may be pretty excited to hear the latest rumor suggesting that James Bond (1987-1994) actor "Timothy Dalton" is being considered to star as Alfred Pennyworth in 2015's Batman/Superman film.

(inquisitr.com) who also got the information from Cosmicbook.com (the same site that claimed Bryan Cranston was in talks to star as Lex Luthor and that Affleck has signed for 13 appearances as Batman) claims that Zack Snyder wants the classic Bond actor for the film. Even though there's a great chance this news may be completely false what are your thoughts on this casting choice?

@ShadowPimp723

You know at first I said the same thing but I honestly like the idea of a younger Alfred. Not "young" but younger! lol

Plus Timothy is 69 so I think he's about the right age!

@Shadowpimp Dalton is a bit older than he looks. At nearly 70, he could be a believable butler-turned-guardian to an early forties Bruce.

Dalton would be cool. As for Cranston not being Luthor, I'm fine with that. I'd rather him be Jim Gordon anyway.

I would really like this. He looks like he still has some spring in his step and he looks like he could kick some ass still. I'd love to see an Alfred that is a force by himself.

I'm being one hundred percent sincere when I say that if Timothy Dalton was to be Batfleck's Alfred, this movie wouldn't even need story or a script or any of that then-superfluous stuff. It'd just win. Everything. By default.

If this is even indicative of where they're going with casting, it's much closer to the kind of energy that I want from a new on-screen Batman than I thought we'd get. Affleck is already gonna nail the posture and mannerisms I want from a more "stylized" Wayne/Batman perfectly, and if we get this kind of animated characters (metaphorically speaking) to back these guys up, I'm getting legitimately pumped.

So basically, TheBlackMan hit the nail on the head. This is - probably falsely - getting our hopes up. Ah well, fingers remained crossed.

Actually I think I'll have to go back a bit on that 100% sincerity. I still.. I uh.. I still think it needs a script and a plot. :>

Sean Connery, woo! Oh, I came across this rhyme earlier, found it pretty funny.

Walt Disney was an Irishman
He came from Ballymuck
He walked all day to Amerikay
With his good friend Donal Duck

Yeah, we Irish got Sean Connery, Walt Disney, Daniel Day Lewis. We got it all, bitch!

In fairness, Holly from seasons 1 and 2 of Red Dwarf should be Alfred. If he's alive, which I don't think he is...

"Although it would make for a hell of a classic."

Haha, yeah. :D

Actually, that's sorta the weirdly comforting thing to me. I mean I felt a little too close to Avengers to necessarily appreciate that becoming a beautiful disaster, simply because I kinda love Joss Whedon too much. To me that would've felt like seeing my kid bomb completely in the school play. I'd still love him, but I get that all the other kids would probably make fun of him, and he'd prolly never be asked back.

But still - Avengers was this absolutely absurd proposition on paper. It's a miracle that it works. I don't think many people here, or comic book readers in general, appreciate just how impossible that movie was, until it was made and proven to be possible. The tonal difficulties, the problems you have with just putting these guys in the same frame and not having it be the most ridiculous thing *ever*, let alone having them interact in ways that normal human beings can follow and find meaningful. Getting that right - leaving behind a world where it's not OBVIOUSLY IMPOSSIBLE, borders on irresponsible.

WB don't go all-in yet. They don't have upwards of six different super heroes zipping around the same movie yet. But yeah, absolutely, there's definitely a dimension to all of this where, if the movie ends up being the dumbest, silliest thing ever, it's going to be a beautiful disaster -- indeed, a classic. :D

SimonM7 - 9/1/2013, 7:47 PM
Full disclosure: I don't have a kid. I have a Joss Whedon though. That's enough for now.
