SUPERMAN: LEGACY Director James Gunn Says At Least One GOTG VOL. 3 Cast Member Will Appear

Though he doesn't reveal which one, James Gunn has confirmed that at least one Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 cast member will have a role in Superman: Legacy...

James Gunn took part in a Twitter Q&A last night, and while he (mostly) restricted his replies to "yes/no" answers, we were able to learn a few interesting details about his Guardians of the Galaxy movies and his upcoming DCU film, Superman: Legacy.

The filmmaker regularly works with the same actors in his projects, and when asked if any cast member from GOTG Vol. 3 will appear in Legacy, he confirmed that they will... but didn't reveal who!

However, unless Gunn is planning to break tradition with his Superman reboot, we have a pretty good idea.

Both Michael Rooker and Nathan Fillion have appeared in all of Gunn's movies so far (Fillion's GOTG Vol. 2 part ended up being cut), so we'd say there's a pretty good chance one or both of them will show up in Superman: Legacy. Of course, this doesn't mean other Vol. 3 actors won't also feature.

Could you see any of the GOTG Vol. 3 cast taking on a main role in Superman: Legacy? As Lois Lane or Lex Luthor, perhaps? Let us know in the comments.

Right now, all we really know about Legacy is that it's set to hit theaters on July 11, 2025, and will focus on the early days of the iconic hero. Gunn has confirmed that Jimmy Olsen will feature, and we'd be very surprised if fellow Superman regulars Lois Lane and Lex Luthor didn't join him.

Gunn turned in the first draft of his script before the writers' strike, but that doesn't mean the production won't be impacted going forward.

“Superman: Legacy is the true foundation of our creative vision for the DC Universe. Not only is Superman an iconic part of DC lore, he is also a favorite character for comic book readers, viewers of earlier movies, and fans around the world," said Gunn during the DCU slate announcement. "I can’t wait to introduce our version of Superman who audiences will be able to follow and get to know across films, movies, animation and gaming.”

Gillan, Klementieff or Saldaña or all of them.

In fact, give this trio a franchise of their own. I'm sure there's an all female team they can be part of.

@WakandanQueen - Klementieff for Willow (Mantis' name when she's in the DCU).

This is one of the numerous reasons why James Gunn is a terrrible choice to head the DCU film universe. His shameless cronyism!
mastakilla39

@Forthas - Nah thats the charm of it. It's similar to Chris Nolan and Guillermo Del toro who mostly use the same actor friends and family in all their projects.

If it works don't change the formula.
Unguviolet
Unguviolet - 5/7/2023, 10:05 AM
@Forthas - pretty much every director has some frequent collab. Gunn, russos, Nolan, Scorsese, you name it.
Forthas
Forthas - 5/7/2023, 10:18 AM
@mastakilla39 - This is utter BS! If you took the percentage of the actors that Chris Nolan or Guillermo Del Toro has worked with on any given film franchise, less than a a quarter are actors they have worked with before. With James Gunn it is the majority of people in his films across various franchises.
Forthas
Forthas - 5/7/2023, 10:22 AM
@Unguviolet - Sure...but Gunn does it to an extreme and even if other directors do it...it is still wrong to do. There are far too many actors trying to get a break in major films and if everyone did what Gunn does then that means that it is not merit based and there is no reason why fans should believe the best person for the job is in the role. It is anti-free market and contibutes to inferior film making.
mastakilla39
mastakilla39 - 5/7/2023, 11:28 AM
@Forthas - Nolan often works with Cillian Murphy and Michael Caine and most actors in key roles are usually people Nolan has worked with in the past. All directors have people they frequently collaborate with in front and behind the camera. Don't understand the needless bitching just becuz some are blood related to Gunn. None of this has ever affected the quality of GDT, Nolan or Gunn's films.

Thats a BS criticism in general.
Forthas
Forthas - 5/7/2023, 11:52 AM
@mastakilla39 - The ONLY two actors you can say Nolan works with on numerous films is Michael Caine and it Tom Hardy and Cilian Murphy who AUDITIONED for his role in Batman and was not cast in the role he AUDITIONED for. In the case of Gunn he has worked with Rookery, his wife, his brother. Filian, Sylvester Stallone, the Ratcatcher woman, the guy who plays the high evolutionary and so on and so on....that is unbridled cronyism and any other director that does it to that extent is just as bad.

@mastakilla39 - quick question; you are personal friends with Nolan??
ObserverIO
ObserverIO - 5/7/2023, 12:24 PM
@Forthas - What about all the family members Nolan puts in his movies. His uncle is in every movie he does and he frequently collaborates with his brother on the writing side of things. Also his wife is the producer of every one of his movies.

@Forthas - Directors do it all the time. Some people (if I had to guess, mostly angry Snyder fans) are just extra bitchy to him about it.

@newhire13

I am not arguing that a director can NEVER work with an actor again. I don't think that Noilan or any other director outside of Martin Scorsese does it nearly to the extent that Gunn does...here is just a sample of the actors from two of Gunns franchises that appear or voice characters in both GOTG and The Suicide Squad...

Sean Gunn
Chuckwudi Iwuji
Daniela Melchoir
Sylvester Stallone
Michael Rooker
Pom Klementieff
Nathan Fillian
Jennifer Holland
Pete Davidson
Stephen Blackehart

AND

Natalia Safran (take a guess who she is related to)

But even if OTHER directors do it. It is still wrong! I guess other directors are more subtle about it!
