James Gunn took part in a Twitter Q&A last night, and while he (mostly) restricted his replies to "yes/no" answers, we were able to learn a few interesting details about his Guardians of the Galaxy movies and his upcoming DCU film, Superman: Legacy.
The filmmaker regularly works with the same actors in his projects, and when asked if any cast member from GOTG Vol. 3 will appear in Legacy, he confirmed that they will... but didn't reveal who!
However, unless Gunn is planning to break tradition with his Superman reboot, we have a pretty good idea.
Both Michael Rooker and Nathan Fillion have appeared in all of Gunn's movies so far (Fillion's GOTG Vol. 2 part ended up being cut), so we'd say there's a pretty good chance one or both of them will show up in Superman: Legacy. Of course, this doesn't mean other Vol. 3 actors won't also feature.
Could you see any of the GOTG Vol. 3 cast taking on a main role in Superman: Legacy? As Lois Lane or Lex Luthor, perhaps? Let us know in the comments.
Right now, all we really know about Legacy is that it's set to hit theaters on July 11, 2025, and will focus on the early days of the iconic hero. Gunn has confirmed that Jimmy Olsen will feature, and we'd be very surprised if fellow Superman regulars Lois Lane and Lex Luthor didn't join him.
Gunn turned in the first draft of his script before the writers' strike, but that doesn't mean the production won't be impacted going forward.
“Superman: Legacy is the true foundation of our creative vision for the DC Universe. Not only is Superman an iconic part of DC lore, he is also a favorite character for comic book readers, viewers of earlier movies, and fans around the world," said Gunn during the DCU slate announcement. "I can’t wait to introduce our version of Superman who audiences will be able to follow and get to know across films, movies, animation and gaming.”
