With Christmas out of the way, toy stores have to start figuring out which toy will become the next hot thang. That is why January is the month for some of the most important Toy Fairs. These events will help retailers decide which toys they can fill their shelves with. This also means that information on toys that have been created as tie-ins for 2014 potential blockbusters begin to leak out, like the Michael Bay-produced Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The website, Idle Hands, was contacted by an individual that got a chance to view the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles action figures and here are the details.
THE TURTLES
- Each turtle has the weapons they should have. (YAY!) 2 swords for Leo, a staff for Don, 2 sais for Raph, a pair of nunchucks and a three sectioned staff for Mikey.
- Each turtle looks LIKE A TURTLE and not alien...at all. (BIGGER YAY!) In fact the designs are quite traditional and unremarkable, and feature far less texture than the 80's movie turtles. Eyes are fairly normal and not cartoonishly large. No beak along the nose area like some speculated. Three fingers and two toes.
- The sort of hunched over posture present in the actors in those leaked set pictures is present here.
- Amazingly, each character appeared to have a different physique with some (like Raphael and Leonardo) having super heroey muscle tone (though Raph appears more pumped up than Leo) and Donatello appearing slimmer..leaner. Michelangelo could possibly be slightly shorter than the rest.
- Each turtle's mask matches the color from the cartoons.
- Styles of dress are different as well with Leonardo in a sort of pseudo samurai gear get up including shoulder armor, some leg bits, arm bracer and foot wear up to the calf with bindings showing. He might have some armor (non metal) along his chest as well. Donatello's gear is a mix of techy, modern and a dash of samurai with more normal footwear (for a 2 toed giant turtle), some gadget on his head and gadgetry coming off of his shell. The ends of his mask are far longer than the rest, draping down to his waist. Raphael has adopted an urban warrior look with white, bandage-like wrappings on his feet, right leg, and right arm. He wears this very conan-esque loin cloth..thing..with leather straps draping down as if he were more suited for gladiatorial battle. Michelangelo's outfit seems the simplest with a hoodie wrapped around his waist, pants and sneakers with the toes cut out, wrappings on his hands and forearms, a necklace (could be puka shell beads?) and his mask ends drape down to his chest. He looks frighteningly ready to spit out some modern catch phrases.

SPLINTER
- Again, a very traditional design.
- Hair pulled up in a samurai..nub? Fu Manchu facial hair going on.
- His eyes seemed a little odd but I couldn't make out what was going on there.
- Slightly tattered samurai outfit with a blue upper half with gold accents, tan lower belted robes and blocky sandals.
- Comes with a samurai sword.

THE SHREDDER
- This guy looks like he owns stock in the Ronco knife company! Pointy edges coming off of absolutely anything. He'll be the stuff of ridicule for some time. Very overcomplicated outfit.
- Helmet is pseudo-traditional, adopting elements of the classic look (mostly the shape and key elements) with the top coming down over the eyes to the nose. Mouth area is recessed.
- Describing the rest of this armor is a nightmare. Suffice to say, even though he's covered head to toe in metal armor or blades, his arms are still mostly bare. It's a bit comical. He's got the shoulder pieces with the blades coming off them, the shin armor with the blades coming off them, black armor areas to offset the steel parts and a cape that looks metal with blades coming down the side. I'd expect we'll see him whip that around in battle.
- His only weapons (beyond his whole body) seem to be the bladey thingies coming off his forearm armor. The one on his right arm seems incredibly complicated..maybe a spinning blade?

Wow!! Actually sounds interesting.

Its a good idea that they are adding each turtle its own uniqeness based on their personalities.

They just shouldent deviate too far from the traditional look and come off looking too different and stupid.

Well okay The Turtles sound good, yes they sound like their original versions okay I am digging it. Splinter sounds good alright now I am interested. Let's what Shredder sounds like. Okay Shredder sounds, wait hold on....

Well that's it. They destroyed Shredder. Even the guy trying to describe him knows it LOL. Next Megan Fox as April O'Neil!? Only reason why she got chosen out of thousands of better actors that could have taken the role is because Michael Bay is producing, he probably is the one that pushed the stupid casting choice through. As long as they minimize her role and give the turtles most of the main focus I'll be fine with that. But good gawd what did they do with Shredder!? I know the metal armor and spiked blades is apart of the original Shredder but it just sounds so over the top in this description like they went overboard with it all over the place. I'll still wait for an actual photo to reserve further judgement, but wow.

Man this movie comes out in June. No info or trailer. I'm hoping this movie is good but I have a bad feeling due to the fact that Michael bay is directing this and transformers in the same year. And releasing them in the same year. I'm very highly sure the movies action will look good but will the story be?

nailbiter111: yep, proof right there that fanboys focus on one or two things without getting the actual facts and just start bitching away just to be part of the bitching party.

Lawliet - 1/2/2014, 11:44 PM
@ibravosp5 nope, Jonathan Liebesman is directing TMNT not michael bay,
as from the details of the toys looks like its gonna be promising traditional-ish look of the turtles with unique design. it's interesting!

@nailbiter111 oh snap... My bad, but I'm still worried. And @imaginejim I'm just giving my opinion dude.

@Lawliet yeah I'm not gonna lie, these details did sound pretty good

imaginejim - 1/2/2014, 11:51 PM
Ibravosp5: I know man, but I see that anytime a TMNT article gets posted. Someone always says that the movie is going to suck because Michael Bay is directing and that he is raping their childhood again, etc etc etc blah blah blah. They just jump on the "I think it's cool to hate one of the most profitable directors ever" bandwagon and completely ignore the facts that he is not even directing this. It is just the mentality of bash first, get the facts straight later.

I still don't know what to think about this movie, but I'm excited to see the trailer and to see what the Turtles look like.

@imaginejim actually you are right. I even told myself I shouldn't judge movies before seeing them. But it's a bad feeling in my gut that the movie will not be as good as I hope of it to be. Prime reason i need some kind of trailer to hype me up.

ibravosp5: I think you just became my favorite, most respected user ever. Takes a real man to admit mistakes. I too am looking forward to seeing a trailer. There's been so much negative feedback on a film we know extremely little about, but I really want this to be good because I love the turtles! :)

I've been looking forward to this movie. The IDW comics breathed some new life into the whole concept, and I'm hoping a lot of that makes it to the screen. I'm guessing all this talk about aliens means the story will skip straight to the Dimension X/Krang stuff.

So shredder sounds like shredder minus what I'm going to assume is a chainmail cape and you're all bitching?

I love how people read words on the internet and decide a movies fate right here and now in January of 2014, lol. If it does truly suck, wait til a trailer or two come out first, and if it does, is anyones life ruined? No

Can't wait to see the first official pics. Been really pumped about this movie. The new comic book, game and show have just made me fall in love with them all over again. Really excited to see what Jonathan Liebesman and Michael Bay have with the green guys. P.S. Stop hating. When you've seen the movie in theaters then judge. Not when you haven't seen not one pic of the turtles are Shredder.

Going by the descriptions of the action figures isn't the best way to tell how they'll look in the movie.

Certain armor/clothing and weapons not present in the movie is added to the action figures so they appeal more to kids.

I'm not too optimistic for this movie.

It sounds alright, curious to see what the turtles will look in live action. Also the description of Shredder is very similar to the 2003 TMNT incarnation.
