Michael Bay Reveals The Reason For TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES Title

The producer of the upcoming reboot of the popular franchise offers an update on the movie; revealing why Paramount decided to drop "Teenage" and "Mutant" from the title and assuring fans that they will still "act like teenagers".

Taking to Shoot For The Edit - The Official Michael Bay Forums, producer Michael Bay has offered up the following statement in regards to the latest controversy surrounding the upcoming reboot of the franchise.

"Paramount marketing changed the name. They made the title simple. The characters you all remember are exactly the same, and yes they still act like teenagers. Everything you remember, why you liked the characters, is in the movie. This script is being developed by two very smart writers, with one of the original creators of Ninja Turtles. They care VERY MUCH about making this film for the fans. Everyone on this team cares about the fans. Just give them a chance. Jonathan the director, is a major fan of the whole franchise. HE'S NOT GOING TO LET YOU DOWN."

It was first revealed that the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles would no longer be mutants. Instead, the foursome would be aliens. Last week we discovered that Paramount would be dropping "Teenage" from the title. Needless to say, this has left both fans and those involved with either their creation or various animated iterations fuming despite the fact that they know only a few minor details about the direction of this reboot. Are aliens really any more ridiculous than four sewer turtles being mutated into teenagers? Does it really matter that they have dropped "Teenage" from the title? Sound off with your thoughts in the usual place.

Im going to atleast give Crazy Bay a chance, because honestly the First Transformers wasn't bad at all.

Even if the story is not their hopefully the turtles will look awesome and have cool action scenes

IF he actually [frick]s this movie up, i'll go slay him and slice his [frick]ing head open in half. If it delivers well I'll just shit my pants. In My opinion for the turtles they should use make up and motion capture CGI with puppets for the small creatures. With that you would make hell of a realistic movie. Not with that shit we got from avatar.

I think from what we've heard in the last couple of days from Liebesman shows that the film is actually leaning more towards an alien ooze origin. I freaked out just like everyone, but I think the simple matter is that Bay misspoke, or he said "alien race" just to piss people off and draw attention to the film. Hearing from Liebesman that they're possibly taking the Umtrom ooze story from the comics kind of has me excited now. I'll reserve my anger for when I've actually seen what the origin story ends up being.

I really don't think anyone was pissed of about the alien thing because it was more ridiculous sounding than the mutant origin. They were pissed off because it's such a deviation from the original...and every incarnation since..story.

Anyway I'm still gonna see what they come up with. Bay isn't directing which is something, although Liebsman is which is something else! We'll see.

Yeah but modifying the name leads the audience to believe that's not all that's been modified. Look at how changing the name of John Carter: Warlord of Mars to just John Carter had an effect on audience perception. The Studio will lose a lot of ticket sales just because survivors of the 80's want to remember TMNT as TMNT. Besides parents will want to share an experience of their youth with heir kids but they won't be able to if what they are trying to share has been turned into a complete mockery of their childhood.

Hollywood likes to shorten movie titles. If they could, they would go with the one word title "Turtles".

I am sure when they reboot this reboot, they'll go with the 1-word title.

If it is all about the fans, why are they slowly taking away everything fans love about TMNT... I am sorry, I mean, NT?

Remember the song during the cartoon...
so now it's just

Why are you worried about the title. No one moaned that the dark knight isn't called batman 2. Or that any of the batman films were not called detective comics. It's just a name im more worried that whatever it's called it'll be rubbish.
Clutchplayer
Clutchplayer - 3/27/2012, 6:12 AM
Marvelboy- you are right, it will be the least of things wrong with this movie. It's just that the name is Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
It just is. Sure the Dark Knight was not called Batman 2, but it was about how the hero became the "villian" and thusly "the hero Gothem deserves, but not the one it needs right now. So we'll hunt him, because he can take it, because he's not a hero, he's a silent guardian, a watchful protector, a dark knight."
It matched the story. Do the Turtles shed their mutant status and grow up in this one?

@xNightWingx I think he's talking about the original comic book. As a franchise the Turtles have always been aimed at kids, so his statement is utterly wrong.

@Just1Superguy That room is filled with ninja's that represent old school fans, I assume? Because there seem to be quite a few people who care about the title of the flick.

I don't, it's just the title of a movie I won't be seeing in theaters.

A lot more people would probably also agree to liking all 3 if it wasn't so popular to bash them (and Bay).

As long as all the turtles look alike and you can't tell the villans from the good guys then I will be satisfied that it will be a Michael Bay production. That is what I expect...confused nostalgia...which is exactly what Gusto experiences daily.
