Jessica Brown Findlay Joins THE CROW Remake As 'Shelly'

Now that Jack Huston (Boardwalk Empire) has been confirmed to star in the upcoming remake of The Crow as Eric Draven, he's going to need a Shelly to return from the dead to avenge, and that'll be Downton Abbey's Jessica Brown Findlay.

During a Q&A panel a the Lexington Comic and Toy Convention, The Crow creator James O’Barr not only confirmed that Jack Huston (Boardwalk Empire, American Hustle, Shrooms) would don the black and white face-paint as Eric Draven in Corin Hardy's remake, but that he'd be joined by Jessica Brown Findlay (A Winter's Tale, The Riot Club, Downton Abbey) as his doomed fiancée, Shelly Webster. This character was played by Sofia Shinas in the original film, and it's her brutal rape and murder that brings Draven back from the dead to exact his bloody revenge.

O'Barr also revealed a few more interesting details: the bulk of the cast will be made up of of British actors; in the film the crow will actually speak to Eric as he does in the comics; and if there's a sequel, it will feature a female lead. Check out the video below.

Really don't need another Crow movie… there are so many other good movies to be made that haven't been done yet!
Leave it alone and movie on to bigger better movies…

Don't care what anybody says, if this remakes sucks, I just won't care. Nothing about the 90's The Crow film will change, I will love it just the same, so I'll live. We need to stop with the "shitting on my childhood" arguments to justify why remakes(and reboots and what not) shouldn't be made, especially if it's a film that has yet to come out. Do you not want newer/younger generations to enjoy the same characters as us? Trust me when I say, they won't be as fond of 90's The Crow as us. Times has changed and the new generations expect more that the 90's couldn't provide, which is a good reason to remake a film. I have high hope for the film, and while I don't think it will top the original, it expect it will still be a good watch.

Just because they could do something "original" doesn't mean they shouldn't make remakes and reboots. Originality is hard to come by these days anyways, which means most films will be something unoriginal, and not by choice, but by necessity if the studio wish to survive.

Wow, very pleased with the casting so far.
Although I don't think a remake would work well, it's getting me excited

Hey guess what... The Crow doesn't need a reboot. Bruce Lee's son died making that amazing film and it still holds up amazingly today. There's no reason for this.

As I said on the other article,
The Crow was made at the perfect time, it really suited the 90's style of filmmaking.
The hairstyles and the clothing, it was just very late 80's - mid 90's which is pretty far back from where we are now. Modernising it will make it lose it's "edge" I feel or the costumes and make up won't translate so well.

If Goth was still big I could understand this…

I'm pretty sure The Crow can still hold up:

Goth is not as mainstream as it us to be, but it's still an interesting style/genre in film.

By the way, no film needs a reboot/remake, but no reason to not make them. Seriously what are you scared of? If it sucks, it sucks, it's not like anything happened to the 90's film. You don't even have to watch it, if you are so against it.

@Jollem Very true, but I'm always suspicious when they try and remake a movie with the excuse that they are sticking to the source material.
Remember they said the same thing when they remade Total Recall. I would have liked to have seen this as a TV Series instead.

@CherryBomb Well said, I couldn't agree more.

@Jollem In my initial comment I meant to write:

Why don't the make one of the OTHER Crow Comics.
Proofreading is important.

I thought they tabled this. Oh well...I still consider it tabled and will stick with the original. Getting so tired of Hollywood not pursuing original and new ideas and instead piggy-backing off of classics.

@Jollem So did I in a way. I think they should have given it a different title and it would have done better, also it starred Kate Beckinsale.
Out of the recent remakes I hated Robocop, but I know some people liked it.

I will see this, but I'm going in knowing that it will not be like the first two. I mean, are they going to have a soundtrack with older tracks on it? The music was important to O'Barr and if he's involved, I'm sure we will get a good soundtrack.

...so, this could go either really good, getting their ways apart from big budget/blockbuster cast, telling a nice story close to the source material, not trying too hard; or it could get really, really bad, turning into a failed attempt, making it another one in the bunch of this franchise, I mean, The Crow is a cult movie & that´s it for the sequels ...

She is very lovely. I'm glad to finally see Jessica Brown Findlay in a CBM.

They should have gone with a different iteration of the character instead of Eric Draven.

Jack Huston won't be able to top Brandon Lee's amazing performance.

What is it with you brits and dual last names? and why do some cheat when they are legit hyphens?

if momma and daddy feel the need to have two last names with their kids then HYPHEN. dont try and be sneaky and not have that '-' like it's a middle name.

hippies everywhere... and I'm generally okk with that, but own it, don't try and hide it.

Hate that.
