The WIT Studio production team heading up development on the Suicide Squad isekai TV anime recently attended Anime Expo 2023 where they were interviewed by ANN about the forthcoming anime.
It seems development on the project started a few years ago as WIT got the call from Warner Bros. Japan and spent some time focusing on the look of the characters and how they would make the transition from 2D comics to anime.
WB Japan executive producer Hiroyuki Omor stated, "Was it three or four years ago? Though I have a vague memory of who approached who first... Warner Bros. Japan wanted to make an anime for a DC Comic title and then approached asking if Wit Studio would be interested in the project. Then, after Wit Studio considered it, they decided they'd like to join the project. Producer [Sho] Ohtani was especially interested and tried to develop the idea of what they could make the anime look like. So that's how the project started."
Suicide Squad isekai anime director Eri Osasda stated that she took on the series with hopes of eventually getting a chance to work on a Flash anime. "So I love The Flash from the DC series. When I took this job on, I thought maybe it's a good way to get a connection with the DC, so, later, I might get to direct the Flash anime," stated Osada.
Moi Studio, a South Korean-based animation studio previously worked on several direct-to-video titles in the DC Animated Movie Universe (DCAMU) including Justice League War, but that's as close as the Flash has come to appearing in an anime.
Per the teaser trailer, Eri Osasda will be directing the Suicide Squad isekai series for WIT, which features a screenplay written by Tappei Nagatsuki and Eiji Umehara, character designs from Akira Amano and Naoto Hasodo, and music from Kenchiro Suehiro.
