Zack Snyder Shares His Thoughts On The Outcome Of A Race Between Superman And The Flash

Man of Steel director Zack Snyder may very well end up being the man who finally brings Justice League to the big screen, so it's obviously important that we hear from him on stuff like this! Who would win in his opinion if Superman took on The Flash in a race AND fight? Find out here!

"That's a really interesting concept," Man of Steel director Zack Snyder said when asked who he believes would triumph if Superman were to take on The Flash. "I believe that in a straight 50 yard dash, probably The Flash would win. But, you know, in a fight it's difficult for The Flash because if he gets touched, he's gonna explode! So, there's that! Maybe he would get lucky and avoid Superman, but I think eventually he would get tagged and that would be that." When the interviewer then asked if this is something Snyder will address if he ends up being the one to helm Justice League, he replied: "Ha, clearly it's a raging debate which needs answering!"

In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time. Clark Kent/Kal-El (Henry Cavill) is a young twenty-something journalist who feels alienated by powers beyond his imagination. Transported years ago to Earth from Krypton, a highly advanced, distant planet, Clark struggles with the ultimate question 'Why am I here?' Shaped by the values of his adoptive parents Martha (Diane Lane) and Jonathan Kent (Kevin Costner), Clark discovers having extraordinary abilities means making difficult decisions. When the world is in dire need of stability, an even greater threat emerges. Clark must become a Man of Steel, to protect the people he loves and shine as the world’s beacon of hope – Superman.

STARRING:

Henry Cavill as Clark Kent/Superman
Amy Adams as Lois Lane
Kevin Costner as Jonathan Kent
Diane Lane as Martha Kent
Michael Shannon as Zod

Can't believe we're getting a DCCU. Can't wait till Man of Steel is out in Australia.

Only concern i have with the DCCU is that there's going to be 1 movie every 2 years, whereas Marvel have 2 movies a year.

did anyone else find supermans powers a little ambiguous in the new film, im not ragin on the movie, i liked it and im not a superman buff but when you don't at least somewhat clearly define the powers it leads to question like these :P

What would be the point of Flash if he weren't faster than Superman.

I just hope that when they do make The Flash movie it isn't as somber as Man of Steel. I loved it, but it didn't need to be so serious in places.

They should never, ever 'race'. That would be corny as hell. If you want to settle the 'who's faster?' question it should be in a chase situation, or some other dramatically relevant way.

Flash is the fastest superhero in the DC world today.

@MovieLaughs: Why should powers be clearly defined? Are your skills, talents, abilities and strengths? Only by use, trial and error, attempts to push yourself, and being put in unfamiliar situations do you find out your limits, so it should be the same for powers. Only when 'designed' should they be reasonably well-defined up front, and even then there should be 'surprises' when the user exceeds those design limits.

Part of his journey will be discovering the precise limits of what he's capable of. Like Jor-El said.

I'm all for Zack Snyder to helm Justice League. He already showed he can make a superhero film with MOS and he also showed that he can make a superhero team-up with Watchmen.

@KeithM
I don't think it would be corny. I mean think about it, both Superman and Flash would notice how fast they both are and it would make sense for them to be curious about who is faster. Obviously Flash would be the winner but I think it would make for great character interaction and be a great visual spectacle. Just my thoughts.

PS. I do like that they didn't give him 'super breath' - always found that power a bit silly.

@SuperSam: I respectfully disagree. I think having one of them having to chase down the other would be the best way to answer that question. I can see nothing which would serve any story in them having a race, for curiosity's sake. Never liked it in the comics either and always thought they could have done it a more dramatic way.

I guess you're right, a chase would make more sense when you put it that way.

the race should take place at the end of jl.

Why bother? Almost every Flash/Superman race must always be intervened by a random supervillain, forcing the two to team up anyway.

It was in the late 70´s when i first read a Superman Comic. In Germany it was Supermann gegen Zack (Superman vs Flash). I remember it so well ´caus i looked at it over and over again.
It´s so nice to hear Snyder goes on about Clark trying to get use of his senses. He is breathing the spirit. And yes, in a race the Flash should win.

I'd prefer if Superman was rushing in a little too late to save someone, and have the Flash streak past him at the last micro-second to save the day.... awesome introduction to the Flash.
Emjeed
Emjeed - 6/16/2013, 3:37 AM
Flash is way faster than Supes.. but in a fight as shown in that panel from the new 52, Superman can and HAS been able to hit or as Zack put it, "tag" flash.. and once that happens its usually over..

Could be fun if they had the two of them arguing about this during the course of the movie (did anyone else think that Superman and Faora moved around VERY Flash-like throughout Man of Steel?) and then ended the movie with them having a race...hell, make it a fun mid-credits scene like the schwarma stuff in The Avengers!
holeymonkey
holeymonkey - 6/16/2013, 3:39 AM
@Emjeed, he doesn't need to even touch him, just LOOK at him. Heat-vision wins when you can kill a guy by glancing at them...
Ichaos
Ichaos - 6/16/2013, 3:41 AM
Who is faster. What a stupid question. Its addressed in comics what every 5or 10 years???

Someone commented on super breath being silly. It makes more sense than heat vision though freeze breath is slighly more odd.

Why is The new 52 Superboyerrrman fighting Flash in that anyway. Are the still portraying Superironmanboy as a dick still?

So, I saw an article from April that I must have missed. The girl who says He's kinda hot. Or whatever that line was is named Carrie Ferris. She is in the Air Force. So do you guys think it was coincidence?

@holeymonkey, I said the same thing. An old lady or child about to get hit by a car. Supes hauls butt to save him/her and sees a streak of red and yellow. He gets a serious Wth was that? look on his face. Looks over to see the flash on the sidewalk. Flash turns around and says, "Ha, I knew I was faster." And then takes off. Have that as the last scene of whatever movie they do before JL.

@jerryBlake, I thought it was the same girl as she was with the General for the entire movie. I could be wrong though. I'm gonna see it again tomorrow or Monday.
KeithM
KeithM - 6/16/2013, 4:02 AM
@Ichaos: Not so. All that energy he's storing in his cells can be 're-directed' or expelled to explain heat vision (in a reasonably physics-sound science fiction way), whereas there is no equivalent 'sciency' explanation for super breath. He might be able to blow out a candle from half a mile away, but freeze breath or hurricane breath or the like is pushing it into the realms of 'giving him powers for the sake of it' imo.

Using his flight powers (another power that pushes the 'science fiction' element to breaking point, but the less the better) to generate winds, if he must, is more elegant and avoids silly 'power stacking' where they just give him more and more powers for the sake of it until we're in the realms of time-reversals, memory wiping kisses and S-throwing again. Powers for powers sake. Keep it simple.
