Kenneth Branagh Says Plans For Thor Sequel Are "News To Him"

In an interview with Movieline, the director says that he isn't certain that the movie will even happen despite what Marvel say, but that he is happy they are so confident in the first movie's success..

Nowadays sequels to big budget tentpole flicks are announced before the first movie even finishes shooting and nobody bats an eyelid. It's just how things are done. So it didn't really come as a surprise when Marvel head honcho Kevin Feige announced plans for sequels to both Thor and Captain America: TFA recently. Well, someone should have told the film's director!

Kenneth Branagh speaking to Movieline..

“Do you know, if that is true, that is literally the first I’ve heard of it?” Branagh said. “You are telling me news.”

Despite sounding uncertain, Branagh doesn't outright dismiss that the plans for a sequel are non existent, just that he hasn't been locked into anything yet..

"It’s is kind of news to me," Branagh said. "Here’s what I would say to that: It’s that I’m thrilled they’re that confident. I shall wait for the audience to tell us whether there should be a second one, and then if that’s a nice conversation to be had between all of us, that’d be thrilling. But I’ve got too much Irish superstitious blood in me to assume that Thor 2 will happen. But if Marvel says so, then I guess it must be true."

I really don't think fans have to worry. Even if Feige spoke a little prematurely, there is no doubt that Thor will be a success, it already is.

he doesnt want to jinx anything, and wants the film to be released and accepted first before even thinking about the second film. Good for him.

Kenneth Brannagh HAS to make a sequel to Thor, I saw it today and, despite having very high expectations, I was completely blown away by it, it is simply Marvel's greatest movie, it's Marvel's Dark Knight (in terms of success and story impact, not that the films are similar). It combined all the best aspects of CBMs, plus elements of mysticism similar to the spectacle of the Lord Of The Rings movies.
When I first saw Asgard, I had goosebumps, chills down my spine, and I nearly shed a tear, it was the single most overwhelming thing to grace the silver screen in cinematic history IMO.

He's just playing it safe so as not to jinx anything. He doesn't want to let us down. Studios are always lying their asses off about this type of thing.

He didn't know because Kevin Fiege is a douchebag. He doesn't see the actors and directors as people. It wasn't important to him to talk to Branagh, cause far as he's conserned, the whole cast and director can be changed if he feels like it.

Seeing it for the second time in the morning, it really is an incredible film. Asgard is just...wow.

Thor was an amazing film! Extremely well cast and left me not wanting it to end. It's a different kind of cbm but does still retain a similar tone to Iron Man and Hulk IMO. Marvel are owning it right now.

Bastian09
Bastian09 - 4/27/2011, 6:55 PM
@Otcet - I saw it in 3D and it was awesome. That said, I don't think it would be any less awesome in 2D. It just demands on whether the wearing of the glasses gets to you after a while or not because they do feel kind of constricting.
Sanderman

does anything actually pop out in the 3D version? cause it seems like every 3D movie i see now isnt even in 3D!

Bastian09 - 4/27/2011, 8:36 PM
@Sanderman- yeah there is a fair bit throughout the movie that does look pretty impressive. but I took the glasses off at times because it didn't seem 3d and without glasses the picture was perfect. They have made the effort and made a few things purely for the 3d aspect of it though which was nice. And Asgard in 3d is EPIC!

I think we need some real regular vikings in a flashback scene, and valkyries with flying horses and flying boats.

Maybe some "Nibelung Valesti"´s thrown for good measure.
