I really hope this movie lives up to the hype. Iron Man was a very great underdog, but it set the bar pretty high. Thor may either give the green light, or the red light to The Avengers.

lol Cap and Thor are neck and neck.. 11 votes a piece as of right now. Cap lovers roool and Thor lovers RAWK

@ Midas: I agree man.. the stakes are incredibly high on this one, and I doubt Branaugh can truly appreciate that.
But maybe. maybe we will get lucky.

@ Ror I hope you don't mind me asking, good sir, but I was wondering what concerns you at this point? Is it Hemsworth?

Branaugh's not a comic fan.. is it that? I mean we all know he's good, but will he be good at this? It's a whole different world from Shakespear.

This is great news! Hopefully we'll get a trailer before the end of 2010. Same with Captain America, and Hopefully Green Lantern. I swear, life is all about waiting.....

I really hope they keep the Shakespearean-esque dialogue for the Asgardians cus that's one of my favorite things in the comics; and if some exec wants to Americanize the dialogue, Sir I say thee NAY!

Darth, Im not especially worried about anything in particular, Thor is just a very tricky character to get right in a movie, No matter who is directing. But I have a certain amount of faith In old Kenny. The cast? Well, I have seen Hemsworth act in a couple of small roles which he was impressive in..Hidlleston..never, so Im curious there...

I hear ya Multi. I'm sure that's true, but that's not the issue.

There's an intense domino effect at work here. If (heaven forbid) something should go wrong and Thor turns out to suck farm animals, it's not just one movie alone that is affected, but ones yet to come like Avengers.

And then of course we are all expecting Avengers to create a precedent for comic book cross over films on into the future. If Avengers works out and it's a success it will change everything, open up a huge new can of worms. ALL THAT can easily be jeapordized by how this movie performs on a number of levels.

If the critics hate Thor, that's a strong vote against Avengers. If we hate it, that also is a strong vote against Avengers. If it fails to perform well in the box office that's a VERY strong vote against Avengers. If that happens odds are against Avengers ever getting made.
So that part I definitely feel cynical about. I don't beleive that Branaugh knows how much this means to US.

that cast thus far seems spot on...I cant wait to see the costumes....

Unlike the X-Men I do feel like we will get comic book looking attire.

wait....
I forgot the Jaugernaut suit was pretty close....and maybe storms final outfit.

@Multi: Indeed!

Thor will break some boundaries. He is very rare superhero. Hopefully, the boundaries of such superhero fantasy will be broken, so that we can see films like wonder woman and doctor strange, in the near future. We need films like Thor to break down the genres, that can be allowed to become integrated into cbm's. I'm tired of seeing just science fiction, in superhero movies. I want to see some fantasy, and macabre, and westerns (hopefully, so that I can finally see a dark tower movie).

Thor is gonna be the best. Iron Man 2 looks ok but lots of villains plus I never really liked him. Captain America I could care less if the movie never gets made. I am happy enough with the Matt Salinger one.

Actually, Dellmorte has a point.

Which do you guys think will be harder to adapt? Thor or Captain America?

Bamf7
Bamf7 - 11/13/2009, 9:14 AM
Yeah, Thor will take more effort to integrate with the rest of the Marvel U. Captain America could have easily existed years before in the Iron Man movie, but Thor brings a supernatural element. I think it can be done though!
Betty
Betty - 11/13/2009, 9:23 AM
DarthMulder--Yeah I think thor. Once they nail down an acceptable costume/uniform for Cappy the rest of his believability falls in line.

Thor will be tougher I think. It does have a slew of fantasy movies that have come out in recent years to back it up. What I mean is there have been alot recently so Thor wont stick out as a huge risk of being too "different". Then you have the many decisions on which Thor, Billy Shake-a-spear, Ultimate, or Updated? Should they use Donald Blake or not? Should it all be in Asgard or a balance between Earth and Asgard? Which costume should he wear? Should he have a beard or no? Does he wear glasses? Boxers or briefs?

And most importantly. What story typifies Thor enough to use it as the story to bring to the world for the first time? Ooo that is a good question. I say anything from the Simonson run.

I have a hard time understanding how this movie could possibly be any good.
No offense to Thor fans, personally I think he's just "alright" as a comic character, but as a movie hero?
A big part of why Iron Man succeeded was that it's grounded in the real world. Sure, the science is a little much, but not so far off that people (who are not comic readers) couldn't get into it. It was believable, as much as entertaining.
Thor is a character based on Gods and magic. To do this movie, they would somehow have to combine Iron Man and Lord of the Rings, which I don't think they will be able to pull off. They would have been much better off doing Captain America, and leaving Thor out of it altogether.

Thor the movie will be just fine, Thor the portrayal is the only concern of mine. The guy is nowhere near big enough, anyone who thinks he is needs glasses. Thor is huge in the comics, I can see the need for camera magic, or CGI with his body. The movie is in the best hands it can be in, and the fact that Marvel kept it in house is a welcome bonus, You hear that Fox? You get what I'm saying Fox?

StephenStrange - 11/13/2009, 9:32 AM
Very True MsKyle. I guess Cap is just WW2 with a super soldier.
But Thor is other dimensional realms, gods, magic powers etc.. That's huge. That's a lot. I agree.

The tricky part of Cap will be small yet crucial details.

Like a boomerang shield, vibranium and what it does, what does "peak human" mean or look like, Captain A's inimitable fighting style, the costume, issues about Bucky... stuff like that. The details on that one are a real tightrope walk

"But Thor is other dimensional realms, gods, magic powers etc.. That's huge. That's a lot."
yup...but it worked with LOTR so maybe it could work with Thor if they get it right? Personally, i will see any movie that is set in a fantasy world.

Its good to finally hear some more news about this movie! It would be even better if we could get any sort of Captain America news though! :)

MULTI: Well, LOTR was set in its own world...Thor is set in the same world as Iron Man so I can see hesican's point. However, with someone like Brannagh at the helm and the brilliant cast they've announced so far I think that its got a great chance of turning out to be good!
