Thor: Love and Thunder is set between the events of Avengers: Endgame and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, and if the movie's recent trailer is any indication, it will feature the God of Thunder parting ways with the MCU's biggest A-Holes. We're anticipating the team playing a key role in Taika Waititi's Thor: Ragnarok sequel, but what sort of input did James Gunn have on the film?
Avengers: Infinity War killed off Gamora, only for Avengers: Endgame to bring her 2014 Variant into the present-day MCU. That and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2's lingering plot threads no doubt mean Gunn had to have at least some input into the team's portrayal in Thor: Love and Thunder, and the filmmaker recently took to Twitter to clarify what role he had in shaping their portrayal in the movie.
It's a short and to the point answer, but one that makes perfect sense. It can't be easy to coordinate all these characters when they're appearing in multiple movies, especially when Gunn no doubt has very specific ideas for his threequel. Of course, he worked with Waititi on The Suicide Squad (the filmmaker made a cameo appearance as the original Ratcatcher), so we're sure the two directors had no issue exchanging ideas to ensure everything we see makes sense and leads smoothly into what comes next.
We're excited to see more of the Guardians in Thor: Love and Thunder, and wouldn't be at all surprised if the movie concludes with a post-credits scene setting the stage for Vol. 3's release next year.
Thor: Love and Thunder is set to be released in theaters on July 8, 2022.
