Shortly before Thor: Love and Thunder was released in theaters, Christian Bale revealed that he shot scenes with Jeff Goldblum and Peter Dinklage that were left on the cutting room floor. We still hoped to see both The Grandmaster and Eitri in the movie, of course, but there was no sign of either character in the chaotic final cut.
Now, concept artist Laurent Ben-Mimoun has shared some of his work on the Thor: Ragnarok sequel, and we see The Grandmaster spending time with Korg's head!
Upon closer inspection, it appears he has a robotic body now; is it possible Gorr the God Butcher brutally attacked the powerful cosmic being while hunting Thor? Common sense says yes, though we'd now bet that these engineers created a new body for the villain that they later placed his head on (and that they're possibly doing the same thing for Korg).
If we're even halfway close to being right, that's an awful lot of plot to cut out of Thor: Love and Thunder!
It feels like Marvel Studios allowed filmmaker Taika Waititi to run wild while making this movie, something that could explain why the shortened cut we eventually saw in theatres felt so messy. Whether the plan is to release these deleted scenes featuring The Grandmaster remains to be seen, though there's no guarantee based on past experience.
"Too silly to take seriously, there’s still a lot to love about Thor: Love and Thunder," we said in our review earlier this year, "but unlike Thor: Ragnarok, it’s unlikely to be a movie you’ll fall in love with. Marvel Studios may be developing a quantity over quality issue."
