Thor: Love and Thunder took us to a lot of weird and wonderful new corners of the MCU, but it was the mid-credits scene that looks set to have the biggest impact on this shared world moving forward.

Played by Ted Lasso star Brett Goldstein, the son of Zeus has been sent to Earth by his father to remind humanity why they once worshipped the Gods of Olympus...after he's dealt with the God of Thunder, of course. This is a storyline we expect to see play out in an eventual Thor 5, but where did the inspiration for Hercules' costume come from?

Earlier this week, we spoke to Marvel Studios Director of Visual Development Andy Park to discuss his phenomenal work on Thor: Love and Thunder and asked him the very question you just read above.

"I got to design that one which was really fun because before I designed it, I had just finished watching [Brett] in Ted Lasso [Laughs]. I love that show and the first time I saw he was this character I said, ‘Oh my gosh, he’s going to play Hercules?’ I went to designing that and, again, growing up in the 80s and 90s with Marvel Comics, he was part of The Avengers."

"Anytime we get to introduce a new character in the MCU, every single time we’ve done that, while I’m painting and designing, I’m just like a kid again and I need to stop myself after a while because it’s not guaranteed that you’ll be the one to design it and there are a lot of artists here who do amazing work," he says in the video above. "Just the fact that you’re contributing and doing designs for that character is really fun."

"It becomes a question every time we do a design, ‘How comic accurate can you be?’ I did a lot of different versions and one got picked. We got to see it in the end credits and that was such a treat to be able to see that and also fun to be in the audience whether it was in the premiere or when I watched it after with a regular audience to see the reaction."

"That’s always the final cherry on top," Park concludes, understandably overjoyed to his awesome interpretation of Hercules brought to the big screen.

Fans have unanimously agreed that the MCU's Hercules looks great, and a big part of that is the fact the live-action costume does borrow so heavily from the source material. While we've only seen it for a few seconds on screen, it will clearly looks just as good in action, so fingers crossed Marvel Studios doesn't keep us waiting too long for Hercules' return!

Thor: Love and Thunder is now available on Digital and will be available on 4K, Blu-ray and DVD September 27.

Good actor. I'm interested to see how well he plays off of the more comedic Thor we have now.

A lot of people were upset at the casting and his body but in Goldstein's defense, he was told he had two weeks to prepare for the role. No human even with PEDs can turn into a Chris Hemsworth type in two weeks. If you look at his body type in Ted Lasso you will see that they had to enhance him with CGI because a two weeks notice isn't enough time to hit the gym, practice the script, travel to Australia, and then rehearse. It was unfair what they did to him in my opinion. But the tease was fine for what it was.

Daddy Hercules.

Brett Goldstein looks exactly the part, besides the muscles, I’m sure he’ll bulk up in time.

We don’t even know where he’s showing up next

Hercules should be same height as Thor but more buff

The look for Hercules was fine

@GodHercules20 - It's funny I thought the humor that they give Thor always emulated the Humor Hercules had in the comics.

Why does his next movie have to be "Thor 5".

It can still be called Hercules featuring Thor.

Hercules is my most anticipated new character of the mcu. After that it's Ulik, Ares, Midgardian Serpent and a reboot of Sif.

What they should have done was concentrate on getting the RIGHT PERSON to portray Hercules and not this WEAK WHIMPY-looking guy?!

I’m doubting Waititi will return as he seemed pretty checked out on this film, but I’d like to see Thor 5. Hercules could be a good straight man but who I really want to see is Beta Ray Bill.

Let me preface by saying I love my boy, Roy.

That said, Brett Goldstein has some narrow shoulders. No matter how much he bulks up, he won't match the physique that was CG'd on him.

He needs a bodysuit for the eventual real film. Also, he needs to be just over 6 ft to get close to Hemsworth.

my guess what?
Brett Goldstein is just a temporary actor like Hercules.
Once they will start doing another comedic Thor sequel, they will find another actor that really resembles Hercules but with a comedic chop.
Phase 5/6 is gonna be Comedy/sitcom style!

I think Hercules might be a good addition to the Thunderbolts. As cool as they are, they are severely lacking in power.

We might expect him to show up on She-Hulk too. Given how the two of them.. you know..

I’ve never understood why anyone cares if some actor is really in the superhero suit or if an actor really has the physique we see onscreen, so long as it looks good in the film.

In any event, Love and Thunder didn’t really work for me after seeing and loving Ragnarok. I think the main reason the humor didn’t land for me was that the prior film it seemed to be that the characters reacted reasonably to funny situations, whereas the recent film had the characters trying to be funny regardless of the situation, and those moments came across as “Hey, we’re doing a bit.”

It sounds like this film got lost in the weeds from improving bits and just doing digressions, and had to be pieced back together into something in editing. The deleted scenes regarding Zeus seem to come from a whole different film. It’ll be interesting to see if they can get back on track after this, and where they want it to go.
