I enjoy Ragnarok, but hopefully this one is more serious, they kind of wasted the Ragnarok event. The event should have been the focus of a film

Your definition of hilarious is too forgiving. This is amusing at best.

@InfinitePunches - He isn't wrong tho. This is as much "HILARIOUS" as most of the lame one liners in MCU movies.

I hate what Taika did to Thor, he doesn't get the character, and has zero respect or interest in the source material or the mythology. I loved Jane as The Mighty Thor, but Taika can't take anything seriously and takes the piss out of everything, he'll ruin her too.

@TheWarThor - ''he doesn't get the character'' is my favorite argument. Not everything has to be like the source material, otherwise we'll never get something new

@TheWarThor - did you watch Jojo Rabbit? The guy can direct the sh*t outta emotional scenes. That film taught him a lot.

As for him getting Thor, the argument could be made for it’s Thor who doesn’t resonate with modern audiences, because of the nature of his character. Look at all the MCU films, they aren’t as grounded at the Nolan TDK trilogy, but they do carry a sense of realism, that could fit within our real living world.

They’ve had to cut back some comic book authenticity for the live action stuff, purely because it doesn’t translate to the big screen well with (again being the key) modern audiences. We understand Thor, we love Thor, we know who he is, but the modern audiences don’t. And a character like Thor is hard for modern audiences to connect with. That’s why Feige has encouraged most of the MCU actors to instil a part of themselves within the character.

So, when Thor is being goofy and funny, it’s because Hemsworth himself is actually naturally goofy and funny. That’s not on Taika, he’s just playing to the actors strengths. Because, say what you want about Thor 1 & 2, they both lacked a relatable story arc to relate to Thor the character himself. Not the story, but the character himself. Even in Avengers, Joss recognised that, and tried to subtly play Thor to Hemsworth’s comedic side, to make the character seem believable in the presence of our world. Ragnarok, just let Hemsworth off the leash, and made Thor more human to me.

If you can recognise good writing, you can recognise Thor’s arc has always been him trying to be this strong male warrior/king figure he’s always been told he’s meant to be, and seeing him hide behind all this pain with laughter and jokes, especially in Endgame - makes the character seem believable because I actually know people exactly like that, being ex-military.
