Thor Movie Front Runners

These actors are being named as potential gods of thunder--PLUS, news about co-stars!

Deadlinehollywooddaily.com is reporting that the studio is not set on Josh Hartnett as Loki but could also be looking at Josh to star in the pic as Thor himself. It seems that the notion to cast an unknown is one the studio wants to at least pursue. Other actors are also being considered for the Son of Odin, they are listed below.

Charlie Hunnam (the British co-star of the F/X series Sons Of Anarchy)

Tom Hiddleston (award-winning British actor and RADA graduate who played Winston Churchill's son in HBO's The Gathering Storm)

Alexandar Skarsgard (Stellan's son who has appeared in the HBO Iraq War miniseries Generation Kill and vampire drama True Blood, and who's definitely visually right for the role)

Liam Hemsworth (offered a significant role in The Expendables after Sly Stallone saw his tape)

Joel Kinnaman (some Swedish-American dude)

Another tidbit of information leaked in the same article is that Natalie Portman is in the lead for the female lead role.

JESUS JUMPED UP CHRIST!!!! Can any one honestly tell me how any of those actors are fit in any way shape, form or talent for the role of THE [frick]ING GOD OF THUNDER!!!! And HARTNETT AS THOR HIMSELF?!?!?!?!?! Have they gone completely insane?!?!?!?!? Did marvel sell the rights to FOX while i wasn't looking or something??? Give the dog a bone people!!!

i agree FattSmelliott, they don't seem to be making any progress to get to the Avengers as scheduled, but in a way i think it is a good thing because if they don't get the right actor as Thor the fans won't accept it, RDJ was an excellent choice for Iron Man and i think they are trying do that again.

lol Shaman, Josh Hartnett as Thor does sound like a FOX move

Ease up Shaman, buddy, nothing is in stone yet. They said being considered. I too felt like a brick hit me when they said Hartnett was being considered for Thor himself. I haven't heard a cast idea for Thor that has SCREAMED at me yet either. I've heard some good idea's though, best one being Karl Urban.

haha Shaman! and ya know if good ol' Joshy-boy doesn't work out, his Pearl Harbor buddy and fellow comic alum Ben Affleck would be PERFECT for the role of Tho.....hughughgughguhgguhguh.....sorry I just threw up I couldn't even finish that joke....

yea i agree Karl Urban seems to be the perfect choice.

not these little pretty boyish children listed above

remember..god of thunder..not spring break

Pierce_Highmen - 3/17/2009, 11:22 AM
Urban does seem like the perfect choice..

But where will he find the time? He is Bones in the new Star Trek, and I would imagine that takes first priority if they decide to make a sequel.

I would like him as Thor, but it looks like scheduling will kill that idea. This is probally why we have not heard his name tossed around in the rumormill, at least officially.

I love how the person who wrote this article has the actors listed....too bad most of them are stick skinny. and yeah, they can bulk up...but can atheletes really act. Except for a few exceptions, no.

Notice how almost all of these guys are soccer/football stars.

although the casting call says men under 30 for Thor..I personally still feel that role should go to Triple-H from WWE...when he came out on Wrestlemania wearing the connan armor..all i could think about was Thor...He has the body type, the hair, he always uses a hammer, and I feel he would be a perfect fit. As for loki I would like to see a no name actor play loki, because I don't think anyone in Hollywood can play Loki...that's just my opinion...

For the love of friggin Chr*t, shut up about HHH as Thor. people need to get their heads out of the clouds and stop picking anyone who remotely looks like the character.

If it was that easy it would have been done a long time ago.

saymekian - 3/17/2009, 12:07 PM
Grif, you are retarded. That's like saying,"I think the movie is being delayed because they can't find a caterer."
You know nothing about the industry, so shut it with your constant nay-saying.

saymekian
saymekian - 3/17/2009, 12:10 PM
And I personally think they should get Brad Pitt to play Thor.
"Listen Brad, remember when you played Achilles? Do that, but with a hammer."

dogchasingcars - 3/17/2009, 12:31 PM
@ saymekian come on brad pitt no way man i mean he is ok for things like achilles or tyler durdan (good ole fight club) but still him playing the god of thunder i say no dice man he just doesn't fit the part.

I can't believe how tough it is to come up with a very good Thor and Capt. Hartnett is probably the worst idea I have heard so far. Even worse then Triple H getting the role. I know he won't end up getting the role. I remember some of the lame rumors I heard when they were rebooting Superman. I even heard one exec wanted Ashton Kutcher to play Supes.

Just think its going to be 20Years b4 they make The Avengers movie. And by then Downey JR. will be to old
to play Ironman. Josh harnett - THOR, it screams remake.
(just like the 1st Hulk)...

The sad part is, i will go see the movie, buy it and the figures. Then wounder why they keep screwing up my comics
TheSoulEater
TheSoulEater - 3/17/2009, 1:12 PM
My vote out of THOSE choices are either

Charlie Hunnam

OK....Hell NAWWW to Josh hartnett as THOR.....and where the hell do they get these punks the only one i see as even close to lookign the part of thor is the Liam Hemsworth dude....still dont think the trublood guy looks like thor but thats me... still no word of who captain america is going to be...i hope all this suspense produces something worthwhile cause peeps will be pissed if these movies suck cos of lousy casting decisions
NEXUS

SGA - 3/17/2009, 2:03 PM
lol. Nexus...I can't tell if you're being serious or not.

Maybe if he put on a hundred pounds or so of muscle, then maybe...but, I dunno.

I admit, he's a very talented, very diverse actor, but I dunno if he's right for Captain America.

NPH is one of my favorite actors, but a lot of people only see him as Barney from How I Met Your Mother (good show, by the way)

So for me he's a maybe....

Hey, has anyone noticed that Charlie Hunnam looks a lot like Heath Ledger? I love the show Sons of Anarchy and maybe he would be a suitable replacement for Heath in the Joker role.
breakUbatman
breakUbatman - 3/17/2009, 3:23 PM
I dont really think Brad Pitt fits the role, something is off about him and I think Kevin McKidd was more regal in Rome. Karl Urban not so much, I dont see why marvel wants a youngster for the role though I always pictured the original superheroes as over 30 except for spidey and the torch. It was only a few years ago that i was feeling geekish enough to calculate caps age

HEY GUYS,

IMDB pulled off Triple H and now have the lead cast as:

Alexander Skarsgård!!!

They also have Samuel Jackson on the cast list, so I hope this article leans towards the BS side!

They could use Alexander Skarsgård as Thor, Malin Akerman as the Enchantress and Natalie Portman as either Jane Foster os Sif, in my opinion.

To stand alongside Downey Jr and Ed Norton in The Avengers movie, the person playing Thor is going to need some seriously good acting skills as well as looking the part. Brad Pitt would be the perfect choice!
