Despite it being over two months away, predictions have already begun. Boxoffice.com has predicted the movie to open with $95 million and end with a cumulative of $235 million.

From the Boxoffice.com, here's what they had to say...

Thor: The Dark World

PROS:

- 2011's Thor impressed with its $181 million domestic haul.
- As another post-Avengers standalone sequel, this could experience a noticeable bump in audience from the first Thor.
- The sequel's trailers have frequently drawn positive remarks on Twitter.
- The popularity of Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston has only grown over the last two years.

CONS:

- Since the first Thor already played in 3D, the large 31 percent bump in gross that Iron Man 3 enjoyed from its predecessor isn't as likely to occur here.
- This sequel will face direct competition from the hugely anticipated The Hunger Games: Catching Fire in its third weekend.
- Rumors around the sequel's production have been mixed, largely because of directorial rumors and last-minute reshoots.

If Thor: The Dark World does make $235 million and $400 million in foreign countries, it would be slightly less than 'Man of Steel' which would make it the third highest grossing superhero film of 2013.

Thor: The Dark World stars Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman and Tom Hiddleston.

Yep, I haven't forgotten. If it doesn't reach a billion by the end of its release, I'll change my avatar to a DC comics icon.

omegadagod- i think not having a superhero films for 2-3 months might help because people would have seen rush, prisoners or the other dramas and smaller films by then and plus november in recent years has become somehwat of an event moth with skyfall last year and hunger games and thor this year so i think it will be successful, i think this estimation is around what i would predict to.

this has been a weird year for boxoffice but i think all the superhero films were successful this year, wolverine was the last one people saw and they did decent here and good overseas

omegadagod- thats what i feel for guardians as well, its got the marvel tag so it will open well but it will sustain if its good or not

ezio619 - 9/15/2013, 12:42 PM
omegadagod- i think thats really cool because it shows people see something in these films that they dont see in other blockbusters or big comedies

omegadagod-exactly and for people who say that know one know who the guardians , know one knew what star wars was before it was released or the matrix- aslong as you have a good trailer,it will atleast intrigue people to go and on a sidenote- wolverine was not in the top 10 but amade its money back and is actually the highest grossing of the xmen franchise and after six films thats saying something imo, so i think this year was not superhero fatigue, i think it was blockbuster fatigue because all of them were close and crammed together

i reckon thor the dark world will gross about $500-$600,000,000 by the end of its run.

as long as it takes more than the first film,we should get a third thor movie.

Unless it's a stinker (which, who knows, maybe it will be), it should be helped by a few factors: the Avengers effect, the Disney marketing machine, Hemsworth's rising star, and the fact that the first one did good business and more people have now seen the first one on DVD/Netflix/etc.

So if it's received as well as the first one, and given the factors above, my guess is $120M opening weekend, $55M 2nd weekend + $25M for Mon-Thurs = $80M, $35M 2nd week total, $20M 3rd week total, $10M 4th week total, $5M 5th week total, etc.

Domestic total approx $280M.

Int'l total $550-$600M.

Global total around $850M

I feel that Thor: The Dark World will get over $1 billion but not because of Thor, it'll all be because of Loki, unfortunately.

The Avengers will definitely boost these heroes' sequels. Look at how much Iron Man 3 made. I'm hoping Thor 2 makes a boatload too. It deserves it.
