Zachary Levi Talks More About Turning Down Role in Thor

Zachery Levi talks more about losing Thor. He also wants to be in Captain America.

Earlier today, TV Guide: had 10 questions for Zachary Levi. One brought up the question:

"Was it a little bittersweet getting these back six episodes since you had to turn down your role in Thor?"

He replied: " Yeah, that was a bummer. There's no way to slice it. I am Chuck Bartowski in a lot of ways, so to be able to not only be up for a really big movie, but to be up for a really big movie that is a part of the Marvel Universe, that Kenneth Branagh is directing, that Natalie Portman and Anthony Hopkins are in, you dream about stuff like that. It sucked having to let that go, but again, that stuff is out of your hands. I believe that, based on what's happened, this is where God wants me so you let that go. I wish them nothing but the best. I'm sure Stuart Townsend will do a good job. Hopefully Marvel feels bad and are like. 'You should be Captain America!' or Bucky at the very least. It definitely was tough to let that go."

Zachary Levi would have been kind of strange as Fandral, considering Zachary is a little taller than Chris Hemsworth, who is playing Thor. I'm sure they can find a role for him in "The First Avenger: Captain America."

Excellent article MarvelFreshman!!!

I'm actually watching Season 2 of Chuck at the moment and its an excellent TV show! Levi is a brilliant actor and its a real pity that he wont be in Thor but on the other hand thats great news because it means we get a third season of Chuck! :D

It actually sounds like he knows a bit about the comic books so I say hell yeah to him as Bucky, lol!

He'd make a decent Bucky/Winter Soldier.

Talking of Chuck, one of the stars of the show, Ryan McPartlin is now my top choice to play Captain America! You can find an editorial I did on why I think he should play Cap under "Editorials"! :)

@joshw24 I just posted an article here about Ryan being Cap. I really want this guy to be Cap too.

MarvelFreshman: Great minds think alike! :P You can find my article, "Is Ryan McPartlin the best choice to play Captain America?" here!

I am a big Ackles supporter but everything about McPartlin is right for Cap from his look, height and build to his voice!

A little video clip of these guys doing some, you know, acting would be nice instead of comparative hunk-shots.

Just saying. ;)

@joshw24 I checked out your article before. I agree with everything you said. He really needs a screen-test.

Captain Awesome for Captain America.

MarvelFreshman: Thanks! Im glad you posted that article on IMDB - keep spreading the word and hopdfully someone in the right place will hear it! :) As I said in my article, I think theres a good chance Marvel have already spotted him when they were checking out Levi so I really hope he's in the running! Big names like Damon are all ok in theory but a huge role like this needs someone both lesser known and younger! I mean, Steve Rogers was 19 when he became Cap and although I wouldnt want an actor that young in the role, it has to be an actor of no more than around 30 IMO!

"Steve Rogers was 19 when he became Cap"

Actually, I think he was about 21 or 23, but that's pretty close.I don't really think you could get away with casting an actor over 30 for the role.

Josh@ that's why I chose Justin Hartley
for my AVENGERS fancast 'cause he's 32
years old and can play younger AND older!
And he is the spitting image of Steve
Rogers from the comics!

But Ryan McPartlin is also absolutely
perfect for Cap! Cap Awesome just shouts
Cap America! Ryan is 34 but he looks younger!

Ackles is 31 and looks just like Steve Rogers
too! Any of these three would be great!

I happpen to believe that whoever plays Cap
must look like Steve Rogers from the comics
'cause that's who Steve Rogers is, a blonde-
haired blue-eyed handsome Anglo-Saxon young
man! That is the character since the 30's!
Nothing else! NOTHING!

kenny38606: Actually, if you read 'The Marvel's Project' you'll see that Steve was only 19. :)

DDD Exactly! An actor in their 30's is fine but when I see choices of actors who are in their late 40's I just dont get it! Whoever plays Captain America needs to be exactly what you've described!

gtrman: Well, when your only opinion of who should play Captain America is just any unknown 6'4 guy with a square jaw I find it a little hard to take your opinion that seriosuly! You're dissing every other choice that people on here have made but not making one yourself - what an amazing success the movie would be if Marvel cast an unknown, taught him how to "act and throw a shield" and then put him alongside actors like RDJ and Sam Jackson! Whoever plays Cap at least needs some more experience that just being a musclebound American!

@joshw24, DDD, etc.: I don't think age should be a big factor because of the technology they have now (e.g. Benjamin Button).

@gtrman: Reeve was a Juilliard trained actor, not just some dude off the street. I agree that getting an unknown might be the way to go, but not just finding a guy who looks the part. Also, people can't really nominate unknowns for that role based on the fact that they are unknown.

I've never seen Ryan McPartlin in action, but he certainly looks the part! I'm still behind Matt Damon as Cap though!:)

Geoff Stultz, Ryan McPartlin, Josh Duhamel, Teddy Sears or JENSEN ACKLES FOR CAPTAIN AMERICA!!!

That's a big suck it to anyone that says Jensen doesn't "look" like Steve Rogers. To each's own about his acting but he's got the looks down to a mirror reflection!!! As for no one over 30, i'm not against them being over 30, i just don't want them to look like their 44 like Eckhart. Brad Pitt would be as "old looking" as i would go. No one older looking than Brad.

bropous & gtrman: Wow, so we're "fags" because we suggest actors who you two stooges consider to be "girly men" - the funny thing is nether of you has come up with any suggestions apart from saying it should be an unknown - or in other words, neither of you can think of any actors for the part so its easier to just suggest nobody and in the meantime critisize everyone else's choices from A-Lister's like DiCaprio to lesser known actors like Ackles!

Just because the actors that everyone seems to suggest here are what you consider to be "metrosexuals" doesnt mean that they're not qualified to play the character and it sure as hell doesnt make the people suggesting them "faggy" - the fact that you two jump staright to that conclusion actually says a lot about you - sure you two trolls wouldnt make a good couple?

Tell you what, have the balls to stop choosing an unknown actor for the part and actually make a suggestion better than any of the other actors mentioned here (from Damon to Worthington) because so far neither of you have made any solid or sensible reasons why the "fanboy male" actors as you call them are no good for the role!
StephenStrange
StephenStrange - 12/10/2009, 11:20 AM
I have always kind of thought they needed someone who was fairly built.

It' because of Captain A's power. He's as strong and as fast and as agile as a human being can be.

But if you guys have ever seen any of the strongest men in the world, you would know that it would be lame to hire an actor who is built like a Nerf baseball bat

FAD- Well judging from your avatar... i love you LOL :P

DarthMulder- Captain America should be the peek of physical human perfection. Big wrestler muscles are heavy and slow. That's not exactly perfect now is it? An olympic athlete's build will do just fine and every choice we've mentionned wouldn't need much extra work to pull it off.

bropous- Richard Dean Anderson's left pinky is more manly than Scott Bacula. Chest hair doesn't necessarily mean "manly". No matter how much angry Bacula gets, he looks like he'd get bitchslapped by Pepper Potts.

CGI John Wayne for Captain America! Boo Ya!

@gtrman & bropous: Calling people names does not make you seem any smarter or more manly. Grow up and stop trying to prove your manhood.

I don't have a problem with the "girly looking" male-actors, primarily because it is hollywood that makes them take those ridiculous "thinking man" head-shots. My rule of thumb, if you've already starred in a comic book movie or action series movie franchise, you should be discounted as it's a casting cop out and won't work. The reason Iron Man worked was because RDJ hadn't done that genre before and it was fresh. Same for Bale, same for Keaton, same for Maguire at the time they were cast. No Damon, no Pine, no Leo.

Frankly, what we are all looking for is a Fight Club-era Brad Pitt who is still in the Thelma & Louise, Kalifornia, True Romance stage of his career. Strong chin, good physique, malleable acting chops, not yet type-cast by the machine. Those are some pretty difficult parameters to cast within. If Jason Statham could act, or do a credible american accent, and was 5 years younger, we'd be in the ballpark. Maybe we need to turn to Australia. That's where all the hunkie alpha male actors with chops and a decent american accent seem to be coming from these days. Jackman, Ledger, Bana. Did anyone else know Simon Baker from The Mentalist was an Aussie? Coulda fooled me...
