Richard Donner Disses Transformers!

Richard Donner Disses Transformers!

And why wouldn't he? Transformers goes against everything this guy has ever made.

By jman1977 - Nov 01, 2010 08:11 AM EST

I say that not in a bad way. Here is the Donner Dissis Transformers quote:

"I'm tired of it already. I'm tired of those ... what are those machines? Transformers! Really, I mean they were great but let's settle back people and focus on the characters. The characters in Superman are just wonderful."

Richard Donner made box office gold with Christopher Reeve starring as 'Superman' way back in the day in 1978. He is 100% correct when saying "The characters in Superman are just wonderful." Because they are. Donner did such an amazing job with the Superman franchise among other movie franchises, that it stinks he is getting so old because who doesn't want to see a 'Richard Donner' helmed movie?

The Dark side to Richard Donner's success is that he got his wife, Lauren Shuler Donner, a job in the entertainment business as well. Working for Fox, I believe Lauren, is the reason why so many fans bash the X titles in the works under her name. Lauren is responsible for changing things they shouldn't have for reasons yet unknown(Barakapool). I wish she would go by this motto: If it aint broke don't fix it, meaning if the subject at hand is already mainstream why try and reinvent it, why try and put your personal spin on it, or in other words, leave your mark? Let your mark be left by just making a solid movie, that's what Richard did with Superman.

But the most negative effect of Richard Donner's success, and this goes along the lines of not liking Transformers is that he and his wife are so character driven that they do not want to see any masked Super Heroes up on the big screen besides the actors that portray them. This is the reason why Donner had so much success with Superman. It's also the reason why we won't see Wolverine wear a mask.

And I want to see Wolverine in his mask! Why can't they come up with a successful CGI version of Hugh Jackman wearing the Wolverine mask, like they should have done and still could do with the Green Goblin? Why is this being overlooked?

All in all though Richard Donner is one of the most successful Movie Makers of our time, I just wish someone would tell his wife that she isn't.

Yeah, unfortunately his wife causes all of his arguments to be negated because she is a dumb ass. Im not a hardcore hater on the x-men movies as everyone else but i do still wonder what the hell they were thinking on some of the choices they have made in respect to those movies. what is wrong with the x-men uniforms, and barakapool seriously WTF!

Don't stray to far from the source material and It will be a good movie. If you have a solid script with a good story then the common movie viewer will get it, you don't have to change it to make it more understandable.

@herofreak15

yeah Transformers 1 was good its the sequel that let it down for Transformers. but at least the first Transformers 1 did so well it spawn a sequel. Superman Returns could not even spawn a sequel and Donner liked Superman Returns lol.

His movies were awful. They were campy and ridiculous. Most of you just grew up with them so you'll forever put them on a pedestal. Not a transformers fan, but lack of character had nothing to do with the failure of the series.

Here's the problem.Whether he's right or wrong, he's also a director.A person shouldn't be criticizing or passing judgments on someone in the same field.It's basically like saying he's the authority on directing.This is how you do it.

His comments actually put him in a bad light, especially for me.You rarely, if ever hear directors or actors criticize their peers.That's because they don't have the right to.

@herofreak15

i have mention this in another article but here it is Matthew Reeve, Christopher Reeve's Son. said Superman reboot should just be original and not be like Donner Superman version.

he also said "instead of worrying whether they should keep Routh or try to cast yet another actor who looks like Christopher Reeve in the upcoming reboot, Matthew suggested that Warner Bros. focus more on the story this next time around."

heres the interview

"It's also the reason why we won't see Wolverine wear a mask."

The reason is that that mask sucks.
The whole Wolverine's costume is one of the worse I've ever seen, they did only good in throwing it away for the movie.

Anyone else feel like that was a bit random? He's talkin bout Transformers and then bamf, he's gotta slide in that Superman comment. Its like ok yea we get it, you made Superman 1 & 2 and they were great. How long is he gonna be riding that horse? Instead of livin in the past, why dont you go make another movie.

Also, "CGI version of Hugh Jackman wearing the Wolverine mask"
Really? Heres a better idea - Just put a mask on the REAL Hugh Jackman. Why the hell do we need it to be CGI?

SuperSpiderMan5778
SuperSpiderMan5778 - 11/1/2010, 8:28 PM
i don't know about the CGI masks. they should just have cool design of costumes like the wolverine outfit that u get in the Wolverine XMO video game when completing certain achievements or even the outfit in MUA 2. but have wolverines white with the mask on like Ryan Reynolds as the Green Lantern. as far as Green Goblin they would just need some really cool make up. NO CGI!!!

The problem with his wife is she's a FOX puppet. I was willing to defend her choices until Xmen 3 and Fantastic 4 (both films). Richard Donner held on to the classic take on Superman.

@captainprog, nicely put, Donner is irrelevant today. Donner is done and should move away!

When I thought about it, I'd much rather see Michael Bay directing superman (even though it feels weird to say this) than Donner. At least that way we would have an action-packed movie, rather than a movie for us to see during the valentine's day, or having superman make the planet spin backward and go back in time (WTF?). Or a superman movie that my grandpa would love.

I hope he will have no involvement with the superman project at all, otherwise the bitching and whining about another movie will last for years, and will kill the franchise for a long time.

I also hope to see Bay dissing him. He needs to get back to his place, which is nowhere near superman franchise nowadays.
