We have already heard reports from
A Nightmare On Elm St Director Samuel Bayer, who said that while he would love to helm the project,
“The studio is really hot on [McKay]“.. Looks like that may have been the case.
Collider are reporting that two different inside sources claim that McKay is in discussions to direct an adaptation of the controversial Garth Ennis/Darick Robertson (Transmetropolitan). comic series. Apparently McKay is a big comic book fan, and has been actively seeking an adaptation to turn into his next directorial project. They go on to say that..
..just to be clear: no contracts have been signed and in Hollywood everything can change in a heartbeat. But right now, it looks likely that we’ll be hearing official word soon.
McKay, known for his comedy film with Will Ferrel, would seem like a strange choice to helm and ultra violent..and ultra everything else, adap of Ennis' insane creation. But
The Boys does have a jet black element of humor running through it so who knows. Ennis is best known for
Preacher, imo one of the best comic series there has ever been, but
The Boys soon grew tiresome for me, with Ennis indulging his juvenile/vulgar sensibilities a bit too much in seeking cheap thrills at the expense of story. Still, an adap of
The Boys could still be great(particularly focusing on the early issues) and could pave the way for a studio to get moving on the highly anticipated
Preacher movie.
For anyone unfamiliar with the comic..
“The series is set in a contemporary world very much similar to the real one, with one notable exception: a number of people have some form of superpower. The series follows a superpowered CIA squad, known informally as ‘The Boys’, whose job it is to keep watch on superheroes and, if necessary, intimidate or kill them.”
