The Boys: Adam McKay Has Met With Russel Crowe About Playing Billy Butcher!

Adam McKay updated on the script's progress, and revealed that he has already began meeting with potential cast members. Russel Crowe being one of them..

We haven't heard too much about the big screen adap of The Boys since Adam McKay was announced as taking on directing duties. But chatting with MTV Mckay revealed that although the script is still a work in progress, he has met with some high profile actors regarding the roles. And he names one as Russel Crowe, apparently speaking to him about playing the vicious leader of The Boys, Billy Butcher..

"I've sat with some people. I really like the idea of Russell Crowe for [Billy] Butcher," said McKay. "We met and had kind of an interesting meeting."

Mckay also commented on the possibility of fan favorite Simon Pegg playing Wee Hughie. Since the character is actually based on his look anyway..

"Everyone knows Simon Pegg can take Hughie if he wants," he said. "I don't know what his schedule is like, though."

He then says that the script is nearing completion, but that even then the movie may be a hard sell given it's content..

"I'm writing completely on my own on that, so it's taking twice as long as it should," he laughed. "I am actually in the home stretch. I have about two weeks left on this draft and we're going to try and get it made. It's looking pretty cool. I'm excited about it."

"You really have to wait until the draft is done to get serious about it, plus it's like a $100 million, Rated-R, anti-superhero movie, so we have to see who bites on it. I'm going Disney #1, or Nickelodeon,"

So what would you say to Crowe as Billy? Could work, although he would have to work on his English accent! Robin Hood? My bleedin ears.

Gerard Butler all the way. And I'm hoping that Pegg will clear his schedule to play Hughie!

Crowe is a great actor so I'm pretty sure he could pull it off, but I prefer Gerard Butler, and Simon Pegg is the obvious choice for Hughie so hopefully he would be able to play the part.

I met Simon Pegg at a book signing and asked him if he'd ever play Hughie and he said he'd be open to it, but he's too old now, so I doubt we'll see that casting. Also the biggest reason he couldn't do it is if it clashes with Star Trek 2

Clive Owen or Gerard Butler would be good as Butcher, but Russell Crowe would certainly give it lots of credit as I think his movies are always big sellers and draw in the crowds, It would be the way to go if they need to market it to an unfamiliar sceptical audience.

And if Simon Pegg isnt in this its not worth making, though being that he is a big fan and also wrote an introduction to it im sure it is something he would consider a priority.

Crowe?... Well i think that could work?!:)

He can be pretty crazy when he gets the right role. Anyone seen Virtuosity?

Still prefer Gerard Butler, Ray Stevenson and Clive Owen.

Simon Pegg is gotta be Wee Hughie or its not Wee Hughie at all!

Russel Crowe...No. Butcher is a tall, younger, ex Royal Marine Commando with a cockney accent, not a short, 40 something Crowe who barely pulled off an accent in that mess Robin Hood. I always had JASON STATHAM in mind for Billy Butcher. As a fan of the books I can't really see anyone else. Especially after the crank films and the comparison of face paced low bro humour it shares with the boys.... AND of course SIMON PEGG for Wee Hughie.

Of course Clive Owen as close second.

Let's not be sticklers for actors that actually look like the characters they'll be playing, let's hope they stick to the plot of comics instead of pulling a story completely out of their asses (looking at Wanted. To be fair, still a decent movie).

I would like Russel Crowe more, if Russel Crowe didn't like Russel Crowe so much.
