THE BOYS Producers Promise A Bigger And Better Season 2; Seth Rogen Has Already Seen The First Episode

With increased resources and actors comfort with their roles, Season 2 of Amazon's The Boys is shaping up to be "bigger" and "better" than the first, according to producers Seth Rogen and Steve Weintraub.

Amazon Prime's The Boys is one of this year's surprise hits, having already become one of the most watched Amazon Original series. With a second season greenlit before the first even premiered, there's now some hype and possibly pressure stemming from the show's popularity. And like most sophomore seasons, it looks like The Boys will kick everything up a notch.

Speaking to Collider, producer Seth Rogen revealed the show's creators have been given more resources for Season 2. The result should be a bigger and better Season 2 that "organically grows" the scope of the show.

“They already have more resources for the second season. They’re adding more characters, the scope of the show organically grows as the show continues. We just watched, actually, the first episode of the second season this week. It was a wonderful thing as producers. This is way better than I ever could’ve hoped it would be.”

Fellow producer Steve Weintraub added that Season 2 is "definitely better than the first season," adding that "immediately, it just looks a bit better, feels bigger, the actors all know what they're doing."

Of course, it wasn't necessarily the special effects that made Season 1 so great — it was also the acting, made possible by seemingly perfect casting for the roles. Adding to Weintrabu's comment, Rogen pointed out that the returning cast now has a better sense of the overall tone of The Boys.

“With a show like The Boys, especially, where the tone is so unique, for the actors to be able to watch the show and to see like, ‘Oh, that’s what it is.’ It allows them to come back completely locked into it.”

Season 2 of The Boys doesn't yet have a premiere date, but showrunner Erik Kripke has already started to tease some of the upcoming shenanigans. Kripke recently posted a set photo, essentially confirming that Season 2 won't shy away from the gore. He previously added that he doesn't want the second season to just go bigger. "I want it to go deeper," he said. "A more intense, more insane, more wrenching, more character-driven season. It’s my one and only goal to make Season 2 even better than Season 1."

In a world where superheroes embrace the darker side of their massive celebrity and fame, The Boys centers on a group of vigilantes known informally as "the boys," who set out to take down corrupt superheroes with no more than blue collar grit and a willingness to fight dirty.

The Boys is now streaming on Amazon.

@tugboy - I don’t think I ever got so surprised and pissed and that plane seen with Homelander. You couldn’t save any of them?? He is the worst. Excellent show.

@krayzeman - I hated him do much during that scene but after watching the entire series I felt bad for everyone in the seven. They were just puppets for a shady corrupt business model and were brainwashed into believing without Vought they are nothing. So Homelander was basically a robot who acted upon the best interest of his mother company in fear of it being taken away.

If you study his mannerisms and his persona you can tell the guy is in total fear. Year he is borderline a God but without the mud people he hates so much he cannot function and live happy. And when even a sliver of his "power" feels threatened he makes it a mission to silence or eliminate the threat.

@SonOfAGif - Homelander is a boy without any real training. You can clearly see how afraid he is from so many things. In the comics this plane thing is one of the 911 planes.

Homelander in the comics does try to save the plane but he just breaks the plane in half because just like he said in the show (and was right) he would just go through the plane like butter.

In the comics this breaks both characters.

But i think that is what i lik more about Homelander. He is a scare little child who plays to be a god and be in control. When he doenst know anything about real life.

I like that the Boys don't really have history with confronting Homelander and the others before, unlike the comics. It makes the present events more tense.

However, they did operate at some point before while hunting supes, which doesn't make sense considering how up close and personal they supposedly got with Lamplighter. You'd imagine they'd have run into the rest of The Seven if they did with him. Hope they clear that up.

All I care about is that Starlight is okay. She's too cute.

@DnA - She is the only "true" super the show has to offer. She has no interest in media and financial gain. She just wants to save the world and Vought is doing everything to mold her into another drone.

The boys was really great. I never knew of this comic before the show, but after seeing it, I can't help but want to see more.

You can tell The Boys is inspired by the Justice League, because how many characters looked like a DC character. I also got some Malibu Comics inspiration too from their Ultraverse line of characters, be it using their powers for financial gain and how they looked down on people who aren't supers.

I can't help, but go back to looking at the Justice League and now see why Lex Luthor does what he does, because if there was gods that walked among us, we would be screwed. I know the whole A-Train thing happened in the beginning, but just thinking about how truly dangerous Flash would be is scary.

So in a way Lex Luthor is right, because if the gods ever decided to kill us we'd be dead before we even knew we were in trouble. They could even enslave us if they wanted to, too.

Now I wish DC would make a limited run where the DC gods kill and enslave mankind. I understand there is the Crime Syndicate and Alexander Luthor, but something more edgy like The Boys.

@BlackIceJoe - Injustice Gods Among us tackled this concept. Along with Flashpoint Paradox.

Can’t wait for this! I wish this show had at least 10 episodes though. To me, 10-12 is the perfect amount for tv series. While I thought the 8 episodes were great it just felt too short. Also I know someone on this thread already mentioned it but damn is Starlight gorgeous!

I am not familiar with the comic book, but I decided to take a peek for a few minutes anyway. Then 8 episodes flew by just like that. It is surprisingly good.
