RUMOR: BBC To Announce New DOCTOR WHO Tomorrow; Is It One Of These Three Actors?

Starburst reckon that the BBC are going to announce our new Doctor as soon as tomorrow, just one week since the announcement of Matt Smith’s departure.

According to British sci-fi mag Starburst, a Sunday newspaper is intending to scoop the BBC by announcing the name of the new Doctor this weekend -- so in order to pre-empt that, the channel will announce the name tomorrow evening. They also report that early contender Ben Daniels is definitely not in the picture, and that the part might well go to one of the following actors: Domhnall Gleeson (Harry Potter, DREDD), Daniel Kaluuya (Skins, The Fades), or Dominic Cooper (Captain America: TFA, The Devil's Double). Now Starburst themselves say they can't be 100% sure about this, but that's what their sources have told them -- we'll have that pinch of salt handy until we see how it shakes out over the weekend. If it was to be one of those three though, which one would make the best Doctor?

I don't watch Doctor Who on a regular basis, but I know a little bit about it. Why not Ben Whishaw? He was great as Q, so why not Doctor Who?

Daniel Kaluuya... A diverse choice. You can count out Dom Cooper, he's already moved out to bigger and better things isn't he still filming that Need for Speed movie? Oh and Gleeson, nah.

it will be the black guy because the world has to be politically correct.

So it definitely won't be him, unless the BBC don't care about continuity...

Haha, just another bullshit rumor from a british magazine, with a so called "source". I really doubt it will be ANY of these. "Oh we have insiders" we'll only be sure when BBC says anything.

I doubt it will be Cooper. Kaluuya was actually in an episode of Doctor Who called "Planet of The Dead". Yes, Karen Gillan, was in another episode but her role was a lot smaller. At least with Domhnall the Doctor will finally get his wish of being a ginger. Personally, I'm rooting for none of the above.

I think BBC will go for someone a bit younger than Matt Smith was back when he was chosen, but I'd like someone a bit older, in Eccleston or Tennant age again ya know.

How about Gary Oldman?

Even though he turned it down before, I'll always hold out hope for Bill Nighy.

Sean Bean would be perfect, because this might be the Doctor last regeneration, so if the doctor dies, goodbye :P

I'm praying it's going to be James D'Arcy. Not too famous, not too unheard of.

It's none of these guys, and I'd bet there's no announcement even. Dominic Cooper for sure is out, he's in L.A. now, not even in UK.

Moffat was shooting for a "middle aged" actor to replace Tennant, and it was only the strength of Matt Smith's audition that won him the role. I'd bet Moffat's back in the "older guy" theme again, since so many of the recent doctors have been young.

These people asking for big stars have to remember that BBC has almost no budget for this show, much less salary. It will NOT be a big name.

I want Ross Noble, in full Stitches regalia.

Given that, in all likelihood, the part has already been cast and likely since sometime between January and March of this year, the "front runner" line this mysterious, unnamed Sunday paper is running with is crap.

We'll see one way or the other, but I'm not buying it. And @ThisisHeavy, on top of PanterX's Karen Gillan example (and Freema Agyman before her), Colin Baker, the 6th Doctor appeared in a 5th Doctor story (Arc of Infinity) before being cast in the lead role later on. Basically, there's precedent.

You guys are kidding...I know a lot of you have probably only been watching Who since 9 or 10. But Colin Baker appeared as a Time Lord guard Commander Maxil in the 5th Doctor Story Arc of Infinity the season prior to being cast as the Doctor, so there is a precedent for this sort of thing.

@ManofwooD plenty of people care. There is a huge fanbase for the show. Well, I guess you must be living under a rock then. A show doesn't last for 50 years without a strong fanbase dude.

I vote for a hawt female doc.

Preferably red haired as, I've been told, the doc always wants to be a ginger.

@ kryptonianabomination....

What if I just genuinely don't like an actor? And what if I don't give a sh*t about his skin color? And what if I don't like and actor who has brown skin?
are you allowed to assume I'm rascist?

There's a shit ton of honkey white cracker actors I loathe. Hate channing tatum hate armie hammer hate shia ledouche. That must mean I hate white people- eh?

But I adore ...say, morgan freeman, laurence fishbourne, and so on.

So am I allowed to NOT prefer this choice? Is that ok with you?

I bet ... I bet gustos wallet YOU are honkey white.

Hmm, plausible but dubious. I'd not thought of Domhnall Gleeson before, but I think he'd be rather good after Anna K and Dredd.

However, the bookies still have two actors far ahead of the others as favourites: (From William Hill - other establishments where you can waste your money are available)
Ben Daniels 2/1
Chris Addison 3/1
Everyone else 12/1 or longer odds

Still not convincing, but bookies don't like losing money, so they may be onto something.

My own choice would be Richard Ayoade.

One other thing, I'd not think the BBC would be worried about a tabloid scooping them; last weekend, one of the tabloids had a front page spread saying Michael Jackson's daughter was being offered the role!!! (The same day she ended up in hospital)
