An ARROW Season 5 Finale Casualty Has Been Revealed As Cast Member Official Departs The Arrowverse

The explosive Arrow season five finale left the fate of every single character up in the air but at least one cast member has confirmed that they won't be returning to the Arrowverse this Fall...

At the conclusion of Arrow's fifth season, the island of Lian Yu was blown up by Prometheus with pretty much every single supporting character still on there. That means we can expect at least a few casualties and one has now been confirmed. That is Malcolm Merlyn, the villain who has made his presence felt since the show's first season back in 2012 and even in Legends of Tomorrow this year.

"I am very sad to be leaving the Arrowverse," the actor says in the video below. "I love playing Malcolm Merlyn, and you know – that’s it really. As sad as it may be, I understand how shows must change and also characters must change and develop. But that doesn’t mean I’m not very sad and upset about it. I appreciate your support and love you all." It sounds like he didn't actually leave voluntarily then, but it's hard to say what more could be done with the character after all these years.

Whether or not this means Thea will also meet her maker remains to be seen, but it's obvious that some big changes are coming to Arrow as it enters its sixth season. We'll have to wait and see how far reaching those will be, but Malcolm's story has quite clearly reached its conclusion...for now!

Spoiler Alert! Part 2 of 2 again thanks for all the support over the last 5 years. Now look out for the USA revised autobiography. JB

I actually liked his character, what I didn't like was the actor. I don't criticize the man, he could be an extraordinary guy for all I know, but as far as his appearance went, you can't ask a grown man who dyes their hair light brown and have the marking of their tanning goggles on their orange-colored face for an entire season to play a badass businessman ninja assassin. It's completely absurd, and unbelievable. He looked like a retiree from Florida who refuses to grow old, which is super fine, as long as you're not portraying, once again, a badass businessman ninja assassin.

@Gose - Hell yeah man. Wonder what he will do next season. Maybe have him and nyssa go off and find his son.

@Gose - I've been actually curious about that. I wonder if this return was his last hurrah. With Deathstroke possibly being in the Batman or Nightwing films and WB developing a Titans series, I have a sneaking suspicion he's either about to be or has already been pulled from the show.

@Gose - If he survives, he won't be doing much on the show. Manu already has another show which is why his exposure on Arrow hasn't been much since season 2. I'd say most likely he will be killed as a way to close his story but he could survive, just not doing much.

@Origame - Death isn't the only way to write off a character. They can simply be elsewhere. Slade has a lot to atone for and being in Star City is not a place he should be.

@storyteller - I'm not saying it's the only way but considering someone's definitely dying in that explosion and Manu can't be there for the series, it makes sense to have him die here.

You're trying to make it sound like it wasn't an amicable departure with your comment about him not leaving voluntarily!!!

Which is your own view...

I can't and would like to believe he wasn't forced to leave...Barrowman is too well liked for that to be the case...

Report the facts, not your opnion...

@SuperSomething616 - He wasn't forced to leave. It's obvious since he's hanging out with Stephen Amell right now in England

@bigdannymac - yeah I agree, most likely wanted to do new things...easy to forget sometimes that Arrow started nearly 6 years ago...Barrowmans in his 50's now, so just wanted to move on...love the guy and sorry to see him go...his Facebook vids are sooo funny!
