GOTHAM Actor Robin Lord Taylor Discusses A Possible Alliance Between The Penguin And Jerome

Now well into its fourth season, Gotham seems to have firmly found its footing. During the first half of this season, we saw a Professor Pyg arch, as well as episodes featuring the Scarecrow and Ra’s al Ghul.  While these Batman rogues have had time in the spotlight, series regulars such as Penguin, Catwoman, and The Riddler have also had time to shine.  It appears that the Fox show is now fully embracing its villains, so it only seems fair that the fan-favorite, Jerome Valeska, would make a return.

Although the character is not in fact the Joker, it is evident that Jerome has many similarities to the famous villain. In a recent interview with Robin Lord Taylor, the actor who plays The Penguin, discussed his character’s unique relationship with Jerome:

"Chaos and order, these are two things that are very volatile together. At the same time, they both understand fundamentally what it means to control people."

Taylor further elaborated on the characters, stating that just because the two have and understanding of each other, that doesn’t necessarily mean they will be allies.

"So I think when they find each other; it's like magnets. Are the poles aligned or are they not? Because they could either snap together or be archenemies until the end of time. We'll have to see."

Both Jerome and Penguin are popular characters on the show. Cameron Monaghan’s performance in the series has been captivating to watch, and Robin Lord Taylor has been a solid presence since the very beginning.  An alliance, or rivalry between the antagonists might tear Gotham apart, but it would be a spectacle to watch.

wait, he's not actually the Joker?

What the hell? didn't he rendered Joker completely useless at this point?

@ODanil - Executive Producer Bryan Wynbrandt talked about how Jerome might be an influence for the Joker earlier this year.

I get your point though.

@ODanil - He's the man who becomes the Joker. But he's not there yet. I guess the producers were just playing coy.

He needs to be the joker. Joker can’t end up being a copycat

@whynot - Agreed! And he's amazing as a young Joker! To not just go all in is a huge cop-out and would make a "real" Joker nothing but a poor imitation. He's simply too good in the role not to be the real Joker!

@Buckster10 - hopefully they change their minds and make him joker

He's a better Joker than Leto, that's for sure.

Truth is this show can do whatever it wants. It doesn’t follow any logic at all. I’m convinced it’s writers just get bored of storylines and start new ones without caring. Consequently it’s just random nonsense where anything can happen.

God, this banner photo and ad is so terrible. Everything to do with BW and his cape in the background.

he might as well be the damn Joker. They are doing everything right as far as an origin could be for the Joker. At this point making another character the Joker just feels wrong.

The insistence the Jerome is not the Joker feels like the producers trying to pull a misdirect. Jerome is already so quintessentially Joker that to not have him actually BE the Joker would feel like a slap in the face. Cameron Monaghan is so spot on, so much "Lightning in a bottle" that they should just allow it to be and stop trying to hide it or change it.

I also feel that they should embrace Bab's crazy and let her become Harley Quinn. Forget about the Harlene Quinzel origin and just dive in with this version of her. She is gorgeous and able to hold her own with Jerome.

The scarecrow would be a better option than the penguin to form a criminal duo with Jerome.

Together they could make Gotham a nightmare.
