Since day one, Gotham has been teasing the eventual arrival of Batman and while the young Bruce Wayne donned a pretty terrible looking prototype costume in the season three finale, the real deal will come when the show ends. Now, showrunner John Stephens has said that they're well aware about the expectations which come with getting the suit right and he also revealed its main inspiration.
"I think it’s more matte. It’s inspired by, if I had to compare to any one costume, I’d say it’s closer to The Dark Knight Rises," he teased. The Smallville finale basically just re-used Brandon Routh's Superman Returns suit so it's feasible that Gotham will do something similar. Stephens, however, made it clear that they're spending a lot of money on ensuring that fans don't end up being disappointed.
"It’s a little more metallic Bat battle-y looking rather than something like the Suicide one or the Affleck one. How much money can we allocate towards spending on this costume because it’s got to look good. Because you don’t want to spend five years, and all of a sudden go, ‘Great episode, but that was a really crappy looking costume.’ There’s a lot of pressure, but luckily our wardrobe department is amazing so all the designs they’re doing are going to be great. And we went with short ears."
Batman has worn a lot of different costumes over the years and it will be interesting seeing where Gotham ranks, especially as the show has a habit of disappointing fans when it comes to how certain villains have been portrayed. What do you guys think? Share your thoughts on that down below.
