GOTHAM's Cameron Monaghan Describes Upcoming Joker Arc As Frightening; Pokes Fun At JUSTICE LEAGUE

Gotham's Cameron Monaghan is excited for fans to see the upcoming arc for his Joker, teasing that it is both dark and frightening. He also took a playful shot at the Justice League's use of CGI...

The Joker (Cameron Monaghan) finally arrived to Gotham this week as Jerome made sure that his legacy lives on in his brother, dousing Jeremiah in a modified version of the Scarecrow's laughing gas. In the closing seconds of the episode, we see the toxin begin to cause a mutation in Jeremiah, resulting in his skin turning white, his lips red, and, through the assistance of a little VFX, gaining a contorted smile.

Monaghan took to Twitter, as the jokester that he is, to take a playful shot at DC and their use of CGI to digitally alter mouths, joking that they should release the non CGI-mouth cut of Jeremiah. Of course Monaghan is referring to the now infamous use of CGI in Justice League to remove Henry Cavill's mustache...

On a more serious note, Monaghan expressed his excitement for fans to see his take on the Joker, indicating that there is a three episode arc for Jeremiah at the end of the season (there are only four episodes remaining in season 4). Monaghan revealed that where the show goes with exploring the Joker is the darkest and most frightening thing Gotham has ever done.

It sounds like fans of the show and Monaghan's performances are in for a real treat. Are you excited to see a frightening, dark take on the Joker in the final episodes of Gotham's fourth season? Be sure to let us know your thoughts in the usual spot below, and in case you wanted to rewatch Jerome's parting gift to his brother Jeremiah, here is the awesome Joker reveal which paid homage to The Killing Joke

@HeavyMetal4Life - I'm hoping they didn't drop the ball because they really should have had Jerome stay as their version of the Joker

@blitzburgh - I don't think they did

@blitzburgh - That's exactly how I feel! Cameron's fantastic in the role and the history they gave the Jerome character makes it feel like he really earned the title of Gotham's Mr. J. I'm still happy it's the same actor but there was no reason for the "Twist." As a side note: I really enjoy how Gotham is moving towards making Batman a response to all the crazy villains in Gotham as opposed to the other way around. I always hated the idea that the hero is responsible for causing all of the trouble in his city. The hero should be there to fix it,.

@Buckster10 - But that's what's so interesting about it. With so many villains being a result of Batman appearing, it adds conflict as to whether or not Batman is truly right for Gotham. And this has lead to some of the best Batman stories out there including The Dark Knight Returns. It leaves it up to the audience as to whether or not Batman was truly what the city needed. Without this concept, it's 100% Gotham needs Batman.

@Origame - I hear you but personally, I never liked that idea. I like that the hero rises up to stop the villain, not the other way around.

@Buckster10 - But you have that all the time with some of the greatest heroes ever. Lex Luthor, in most cases, would have been just a shady businessman. Winter Soldier probably would have been just an ordinary soldier. In fact it's kind of hard to think of a case where the hero rose to stop the villain.

The hype is real. This show has my favorite version of the Joker, i dont care what everyone says, Jerome was the 1st Joker... and also the best versions of penguin and riddler. I liked Nolan's Scarecrow better amd Uma's poison Ivy better too. I would have loved to see Monaghan and Ledger do something Joker related together, these two man, they can play up the crazy like its no thang but a chicken wang.

@TheShowMeeShow - Thank you! Jerome’s always been my favorite live-action Joker! I’m glad he’s finally playing the actual Joker so my opinion can’t be disputed anymore.

@TheShowMeeShow - Monaghan has been a highlight on the show, loved his Jerome and know I'm going to love his Joker. He's one of my four favorite characters on the show, the others being Riddler, Zsasz, and Alfred.

Juuuuust watched the episode like 5 mins ago. What a garbage intro to Batmans biggest villain. Now we get to see ALL of Batmans villains being taken down by the cops and 15 year old Bruce Wayne. If Batman appeared in this universe they'd probably leave Gotham within the first week.

The surgeon general should stamp a warning on Gotham.

"Warning: The Gotham TV series is such a mindless farce that you can severely hurt your [frick]ing head trying to make sense of it. The Surgeon General suggests that you do not think about the writing of Gotham as you watch it. Being mentally impaired while watching Gotham is advisable. DO NOT THINK AS YOU WATCH GOTHAM!!!!"

As an else world's show, it's alright.

Trying to view it as anything other than an else world's show & it's bullshit. Great cast, Great acting, but silly stories & too many liberties taken with stories & characters from the comics & ages of characters just not matching up. The majority of the villains would be old farts or dead by the time Bruce grows up & becomes the Batman.

Jim Gordon would be an idiot to go in to eventually marrying this fruit loop version of Barbara.

Why fanny around teasing & building Jerome to be Joker only to put a nonsensical 'twist' on it for twists sake & make it Jeremiah?

Like I say, great cast, great acting, but I have to view this show as an else world's show to really enjoy it otherwise it is just so easy to tear apart looking at it from a logical stand point or if you try to view any if this as canon.

I'm kinda ready for them to just skip ahead a few years, cast any random adult to don the Batsuit in the last episode & end this show!

Nice version of Ra's al Ghul in this show, too.

At one time there were three versions of the Joker in the comics, and it looks like the show is taking that route. Gotham goes from Burton esque moments of style, to Nolan ish moments of greatness, and back to Shumacher moments of cheese. I also agree that it should be viewed as an Elsewords story, and I'm still in for the ride. My two cents...

Oan: Did anyone catch John Mulaney as "Milton Saunders" on SNL??? Take off the wig, and I'm damn near staring at the Joker! My other two cents...

I don't know how anyone can watch or defend this dogshit show. The acting is [frick]ing terrible and everything (outside of the aesthetic look of the city alone) looks like cheap shit. And this [frick]er is the worst of it. He's just doing a bad Ledger impression with some spurts and hints of other, better adaptations.
