James Gunn is back on social media interacting with fans but this time, instead of talking about Superman: Legacy or some other upcoming DCU film, Gunn was answering questions about Peacemaker season 2.
In terms of progress, Gunn is working on episode 6 of season 2, today.
He also confirmed that season 2 of Peacemaker will have a completely different opening number.
However, things got really interesting when a fan asked about how Gunn would navigate the fact that season 1 of Peacemaker was firmly set within the DCEU, with cameos from Zack Snyder's Justice League bookending the season finale.
Gunn cryptically, teased, "You'll have to wait and see." And in response to a follow-up comment about it being easier to just make a new show, Gunn replied that he didn't want to go that route, "Because it's my favorite thing to do, it's the biggest original Max show ever, and I have a way in. It won't be confusing."
The "I have a way in" reply is especially intriguing. One could easily infer that either:
a)these actors making the leap from the DCEU to the DCU will be playing the same character, albeit one in a new dimension
b)these will be the same DCEU versions of these characters that get transported to a new reality.
Either way, it sounds as if Gunn has an explanation and he thinks it won't confuse the general audience.
Aside from John Cena's Christopher Smith, Steve Agee will also reprise his role as John Economos. While Gunn's wife, Jennifer Holland will return to play Emilia Harcourt.
The show was one of the most critically acclaimed projects from the DCEU, achieving a 94% approval rating on the aggregate review website, Rotten Tomatoes.
ABOUT PEACEMAKER Season 1
Peacemaker explores the continuing story of the character that John Cena reprises in the aftermath of James Gunn's 2021 film The Suicide Squad—a compellingly vainglorious man who believes in peace at any cost, no matter how many people he has to kill to get it.
The 8-episode television show was created by James Gunn for the, "then-named" streaming service HBO Max.
The show stars John Cena as Christopher Smith / Peacemaker, Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo, Freddie Stroma as Adrian Chase / Vigilante, Chukwudi Iwuji as Clemson Murn, Jennifer Holland as Emilia Harcourt, Steve Agee as John Economos and Robert Patrick as August "Auggie" Smith. Dee Bradley Baker voices Peacemaker's pet bald eagle, Eagly.
