PENNYWORTH Audition Tapes Promise A Drastic New Take On Batman's Butler - SPOILERS

Epix is currently in the process of casting the lead role in Pennyworth and based on the information revealed in these audition tapes, we're getting a very different take on Batman's future butler...

As Warner Bros. continues expanding the DC Universe on the small screen, Epix (no, I've not heard of them either) has started the casting process for Pennyworth, an upcoming TV series which will put the spotlight on a young Alfred Pennyworth. Based on what we see in the audition tapes below featuring Tom Brittney (Outlander), the show will deliver a vastly different take on the fan-favourite character.

It's already been revealed that Pennyworth will pick up with Alfred after he's left the S.A.S. and forms a "secret company" with Thomas Wayne but these videos reveal that he's actually a selfish young man who doesn't think too highly of the wealthy. He then has a conversation with an unknown character about kidnapping Wayne for an unknown, villainous organisation (could it be the Court of Owls?).

In return, they will release a woman called Esme who appears to be Aflred's love interest. It definitely appears as if this version of the butler has a lot in common with the one seen in Gotham, something which makes a lot of sense considering the fact that show's co-creator and showrunner Bruno Heller will be working on the series alongside Danny Cannon, that show's writer and executive producer.

With that in mind, don't expect Pennyworth to be too comic accurate. What do you guys think?

@Primordiac -
What's even dumber is that it isn't even connected to Gotham. This show literally has no reason to exist...

I forgot this was a thing. And Teen Titans Go thought they were making a ludicrous joke.

You know Warner, when you're starting to make shows based on throwaway jokes from Teen Titans Go it might be time to take a step back, take a deep breath, and just take a break.

Creative control at DC and WB isnt creative. Shocker. Not. Throw this away and make the best Batman show with Batman, in his prime, kicking ass, taking names and solving cases.

I'm really hoping this is linked to the Gotham universe in some way. The fact that Gotham's creator also created this gives me hope that it might be. Gotham's Alfred is a badass and I'm not interested in any other version.

Alfred as a past spy was always cool but that doesnt mean I want a whole show about it. I liked it as something was visited and/or mentioned briefly and gave Alfred some pathos. Made him more than a butler.

Why not at least show his SAS days? That makes more sense.

And now Thomas Wayne is invovled? Creating seceret intelligence outfits? Next, you'll tell me Alfred and Thomas had a secret mission on Pena Dura where they encountered a young kid with a fear of bats and a special teddy bear...

WB will give you a show about Batman's dentist before you get a show that ACTUALLY HAS BATMAN in it

Lot of hate comming from people who watched a TV show about Captain America Girl friend and Iron man Dad .

@HurricaneXavier - Dude chill tf out lol. Clearly people are criticizing the concept and not the show, you know, considering it hasn’t came out. I wouldn’t watch this and apparently no one watched Agent Carter either considering how that went.

@NightwingNad - The difference is Captain America has direct ties to those characters and was from that time period. It was interesting to see how Peggy and Howard moved forward after Cap's sacrifice in the movie. Not to mention planting the seeds for the founding of S.H.I.E.L.D. Plus, the film actors reprised their roles. All good reasons to check it out.

This however, feels so unnecessary due to the fact that Gotham already has done the "tough Alfred" AND covered the Thomas Wayne investigating corruption in Gotham/Wayne Enterprises.

Please stop WB

@NightwingNad - a TV show about Captain America Girl friend and Iron man Dad.

...that actually featured the actors from the movies, and helped further expand the big cohesive universe that's the MCU, in which those characters are vital characters in their own right.

@xfan320 - I agree with that but we can't judge that for just a tapes , maybe the show will procure a new vision from the character or go deeper than Gotham who is ending . No need to go nuclear for that

NightwingNad
NightwingNad - 8/22/2018, 9:22 AM
@Kyos -so cohesive they recruited an Actor from the avengers for another role . and if the people give a shit about the actor from the movie maybe ABC would not have canceled the show .

Yeah... I was gonna comment on how they've gone full circle with this show and the joke from TTGO!, but people already did that.

Ah well, I'll probably only watch this when it does a multi-company-crossover with 'May Parker - Agent of SHIELD'.

This TV show is going to be like Agent Carter and Alfred will be the spy / butler of Thomas Wayne.
