Only one episode of Superman & Lois has aired on The CW, but the network is already moving forward with a second season. This probably shouldn't come as too much of a surprise as the 90-minute premiere gave The CW its best night for primetime ratings in over two years.
The premiere earned widespread critical acclaim (you can read our review by clicking here), and the hope now is that the show will be able to continue that level of cinematic quality moving forward.
"The phenomenal multiplatform debut of Superman & Lois, which delivered for us in a big way on both a linear and streaming basis, is a testament to the creativity, hard work and dedication of the talented people who worked tirelessly in front of and behind the camera, especially in this challenging environment," said Mark Pedowitz, Chairman and CEO, The CW Network.
"We are thrilled to now have two brand-new bonafide hits in Superman and Walker," he continued, "both of which have been renewed for next season along with 11 other of our shows, further positioning us for continued strength and stability for next season."
While Supergirl's next season will be its last, the future certainly looks bright for Superman on TV.
While we don't know whether Henry Cavill will return as the Man of Steel on the big screen, we'll soon see him in action in Zack Snyder's Justice League on HBO Max. J.J. Abrams and Ta-Nehisi Coates, meanwhile, are working on a new movie that's expected to feature a Black lead as Superman.
