SUPERMAN & LOIS Showrunner Breaks Down That Big Arrival & Teases What's To Come In Season 2

Superman & Lois wrapped its outstanding freshman season with a killer final hour, and we have some intel on what's to come in Season 2 after that big arrival in the episode's closing moments.

Well, it looks like the multiverse may not be as dead as we've been led to believe, as the final moments of tonight's Superman & Lois finale saw an unexpected arrival.

Natalie (Tayler Buck), John Henry's (Wolé Parks) daughter from his original Earth, crash-landed on the Kent Farm and reunited with her father... before noticing the doppelgängers of her dead mother (Elizabeth Tulloch) and the man (Tyler Hoechlin) who killed her.

On that note, Superman & Lois brought its excellent first season to a close and it sounds like season two will continue to up the drama factor. Showrunner Todd Helbing teases that more answers about the multiverse will indeed be coming in season two, and adds that the premiere will deal will the immediate aftermath of that moment, with Lois doing her best to come to terms with meeting the daughter she never had

"We get into that in the first episode [of season 2]. The thing that I loved so much about this version of Lois Lane is you see all of her personal struggles and what she's overcome to be who she is, and I think we're going to reveal a lot more of that in season 2. So Nat is certainly a part of that."

As for Kal-El's brother Tal-Rho (Adam Rayner), who was defeated by Superman and Steel and reverted back to his normal self, it sounds like the show has no intention of getting rid of him or Leslie Larr (Stacey Farber) any time soon. He tells Entertainment Weekly,

"We love Adam Rayner. He's such a great guy, and an amazing actor, so we like this idea that Clark and Tal will have this sort of Thor-Loki relationship. So I think you'll see him again in one way or another."

Superman & Lois returns for its second season in 2022, so in the meantime, check out clips from the finale below:

Superman & Lois and Star Girl are truly a new age for DCW. Hope these two air back to back more often next season. Best of the DCW

Hopefully they keep episode count low and keep quality high.

Also dont overstuff the casts.

Superman & Lois works so well because it keeps focus on the Kent family.

Stargirl has enough team members now with the addition of Jade and Jakeem.

For something that was just some purple make up, the Eclipso possessed Cindy looked pretty great. Looks like Cindy is biting off more than she can chew with this.
Jade will probably be back before the end of the season.

Who will be the next Big Bad?

Brainiac

If they keep Tal-Rho around, maybe reveal Brainiac was responsible for Krypton's destruction. (They havent bothered keeping things consistent with Supergirl and its been for the better, so why bother after Supergirl is over)

Zod (In John Henry's Superman's body)

finale was great, definitely the most underrated Superhero show going right now.

@FishyZombie - definitely. Glad we're finally talking about it.

Don't know why we're surprised the multiverse is still around. Crisis literally ended showing the new multiverse. And the writers have mentioned how they had to bring everything back since much of it is tied to existing properties like the reeves superman movies.

Clark has to break up with Lois for her multiversal shenanigans. It's just really unacceptable that it's variants of her not thinking about the man of steel

They had SO many red herrings for a big death in the finale. I definitely thought Sam would bite it after he said he didnt get his injuries checked yet. Hell I even thought Superman was gonna die at one point because their plan to stop Edge was straight out of Dragon Ball Z.

Goku = Superman

Raditz (Goku's brother) = Edge

Piccolo = JHI (former enemy turned ally)

Gohan = Jordan (the son kidnapped by the evil brother)

Superman (Goku) sacrifices himself while holding onto Edge (Raditz) as JHI (Piccolo) deals the killing blow.

Is this show actually worth the watch?

Everything I've seen has been a bit cringe but it kinda sounds promising, what are the big factors and basic show plot?

dracula - 8/18/2021, 12:22 AM
@TheDpool - Best live action Superman since Christopher Reeve and the best superhero show of the year
Himura

@dracula - 2nd this. Felt like I just finished watching a very great Superman movie.

His speech at the Gazette really shows how much these writers understand the character.

@dracula - Wow. So is this a Superman in his prime? Has there been a Justice League? Does he reference other characters or apart from the multiverse is it stand alone?
dracula
dracula - 8/18/2021, 12:54 AM
@TheDpool - Yes in his prime. The Justice League.....kind of, before Crisis On Infinite Earths, they had hinted at him knowing his earth's Batman, but they never mentioned the league. After Crisis On Infinite Earths, several characters formed a team (never actually said Justice League), but yeah they will probably only meet up in crossovers.

They have made minor references to stuff like the Crisis and it is technically part of the arrowverse, but mostly the show is stand alone, only major crossover being John Diggle from Arrow showing up in an episode for a minor role.

It's a show you really could just watch on its own, it acknowledges a wider universe, but it isnt restricted by it. It has even contradicted Supergirl on a few things, hell they even cut a direct reference to Supergirl from the first episode and there has been no mention of her.

@TheDpool - I really tried to like it but TH is just not a good Superman IMO. He doesn’t look the part and despite what people here say he’s hamming it up IMO

@TheDpool - best superman ever after Christopher reeves. been reluctant to watch it but now I'm stuck on it. it tells the story of the Kent family, focusing on Clark becoming a father and a superhero at the same time...that's not easy homie

Now that his first season is over, heres the question....

Is he good enough to surpass Christopher Reeve one day?

If the show maintains its quality long enough I think he can do it.

Battabing - 8/18/2021, 12:54 AM
@dracula -
I'd say the Chris Reeve torch has been passed to Tyler Hoechlin, although ironically Brandon Routh is the Christopher Reeve Superman.
Himura
Himura - 8/18/2021, 1:15 AM
@dracula - Only flaw I see in Tyler's performance is that I wish he would play Superman and Clark Kent a biiit more different. Not to say I dont love his performance but that's what always stood out to me the most with Reeve's.

Understandably he IS a more mature Clark in this show so he doesnt have to be the bumbling nerd but showing some sort of difference between his secret identity would be nice.

That's probably one of the few criticisms I have with this show though. I'm loving everything else.
RealTurner
RealTurner - 8/18/2021, 6:17 AM
@dracula - I never cross my fingers about a CW show maintaining quality. In four seasons' time Louis will have had powers and lost them, one of the kids will be an evil cyborg, and superman will be leading a diverse team of scrappy C-list heroes with vaguely-defined powers and lots of banter. They are not the best at taking a good start and creating natural extensions to the story from it.

One thing I really love about the show is the escape the "guy in the chair" cliche that Arrow and Flash leaned into real hard. No quippy geek(s) who solve everything with technobabble. Flash's "science" scenes in the most recent effort were basically just run through a word scrambler. So sloppy.

Much better than the majority of CW shows but still a lot of very frustrating and cringe worthy scenes.

Last week with the town kicking off and shouting at the army for being there was unbearable, like your town wasn't just overran by supervillains a few days ago...

@Ha1frican - just gotta ask

Are you a fan of comic Superman? Because thats what we got

Takes the time needed to develop the characters

Keeps the focus where it belongs

@dracula - I am a fan of comic Superman, but that’s such a broad term bc it can easily apply to this or not apply to this and no the comics I grew up on are absolutely nothing like this show or this character.
