Vincenzo Natali says that "legal entanglements" are impeding the progress of Joel Silver's planned 3-D reboot of the Swamp Thing franchise!

Alas, comic book movie fans, it appears that the planned Joel Silver-produced, Vincenzo Natali-directed 3-D reboot of the Swamp Thing franchise is not to be. In a recent interview with MTV, Natali said:

"Unfortunately, there is no Swamp Thing, movie in the works right now because of all the legal entanglements involved with that particular property. And, I'm being told it won't happen any time soon.

"Joel Silver was going to do Swamp Thing, and he actually had a couple of scripts written, only to discover later on that the film rights were held by another company. And it's even more complicated than that, I've been told. So unfortunately, it's not going to happen any time soon."

Natali also implied that Alan Moore, creator of Watchmen and The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, and the man who made the boring much-encrusted anti-hero into an intriguing earth elemental, may be another roadblock:

"Everyone wants the Alan Moore version, I think. But, as I said, it's tricky because Alan Moore has very negative feelings toward the film industry ... he's not shy about it. I honestly don't even know all of the complexities of the legal issues surrounding it, but I know they are complex."

Natali's latest film, Splice, which he wrote as well as directed, opens June 4th.

OK. The ads on this site are so obnoxious right now. I'm almost wishing the Wolfman ads were running again. At least they only hijacked the sound on the computer. Now I get pop-ups covering the whole screen or re-routed to Parade magazine or the iron man video game. It is now almost as bad as a porn site!!!!

that sucks. he would have been awesome to direct it.i cant wait to see splice, and what he directs next. i would love for him to direct a remake to island of dr moreau,a remake to resident evil more like the first game, jurassic park,a underworld the begining about marcu, william, corvinus, and victor, steve altens the loch,a remake to the creature from the black lagoon, and a sequel to splice, and any of these. i would really love to see more directors like him who make dark and gritty monster films with great stories, and characters, and more creature feature/killer animal flicks like anacondas, and aracnaphobia. also ive been playing a game called heavy rain and it is fricking awesome. they need to remake the resident evil game starting with zero,re 1,and so forth and make them like heavy rain, then they would bank some money no doubt.they need some good horror game in this fashion.

This does suck. I have been looking forward to a GOOD Swamp Thing movie for like..... forever. Now would be a good time because the technology is there to do it right this time. Not so ridiculously campy like the last outing of Swamp Thing.

Truth be told, after 2 bad movies and a bad TV series I'm just as happy not to see someone else f- up my favorite comic book of all time. Of course, it could have been good but I wouldn't believe it till seeing it for myself.
