It's no secret that Rick Cosnett will return as Eddie Thawne in The Flash's ninth and final season, and while we recently saw the fallen cop digging up his own grave, the biggest twist yet is revealed in brand new set photos from the last ever episode.
Eddie was previously spotted in the future, suggesting time travel might factor into his unexpected return. It was during the season one finale that Iris West's old flame made the ultimate sacrifice in order to wipe Eobard Thawne out of existence, but we remain in the dark about how and why he's returned.
However, we can make an educated guess that he's probably looking for revenge!
There was a time fans expected Eddie to become Reverse-Flash, but Cosnett will instead make a whole different set of fan theories come true by suiting up as the villainous Cobalt Blue.
In the comic books, the evil-doer was Barry Allen's twin brother and Reverse-Flash's ancestor. He despised the Fastest Man Alive and committed all manner of heinous acts in Central City; he was also inadvertently responsible for the feud between the Allens and Thawnes that spanned centuries and multiple timelines.
Making Eddie the final Rogue that The Flash faces makes sense on a number of levels, not least because it harkens back to that first season. The detective shot himself to wipe Eobard from history, but Reverse-Flash has returned countless times since, so he may well be looking to make Barry pay for the fact his sacrifice meant nothing.
Oh, and the Scarlet Speedster is now married to the woman he once loved.
