First GAME OF THRONES Season 8 Set Images Seem To Tease Some Potentially Major SPOILERS

The final season of HBO's Game of Thrones is currently shooting in Northern Ireland, and some images from the Winterfell set have found their way online. Warning: potentially major SPOILERS after the jump.

Winterfell is burning... again!

The Stark family's ancestral home was left in flames back in season 2 of Game of Thrones when Theon was betrayed by his men and sold off to The Boltons, and if these photos from the Moneyglass, Northern Ireland set are any indication, there are more hard times in store for the fan-favorite Westeros location in season 8.

Sources report that the sequence being shot features "200+ extras in a big battle scene," which obviously indicates that the fighting doesn't end well for the inhabitants of Winterfell. By the end of season 7, that included Sansa, Arya, Bran and Sam; with Jon, Dany and several other major players en route.

There could be more going on here than these shots suggest, but this being Game of Thrones, there's a decent chance that not all of our favorite characters will survive this onslaught.

You have to get all the characters in the same place, and the dead have to march on King's Landing.

So of course Winterfell falls. And our surviving heroes retreat to King's Landing, as snow begins to build there as well.

This way all the characters are in one place and, after defeating the dead, can turn on each in the final episode or two.

@PsychoticSpaceRaccoon - Yeah the last episode will be the aftermath, Hilarious if the night king wins though.

@PsychoticSpaceRaccoon - I totally agree. Winterfell just isn't as grand a final battle arena.

I cant imagine then not having Drogon and Vsicerion flying around the towers of Kingslanding.

Really wish this came out this year. Waiting an extra year is going to be tough. I really dont care who lives or dies just hoping for some badass battles.

I gave up on this after watching Season Five when they diverged too much from the books and made stupid decisions (Having Sansa marry Ramsay, not doing Jaime's redemption storyline and keep making him Cersei's bitch, killing Mance Barristan and Stannis to name a few, not writing in key characters from the books like Lady Stoneheart and Aegon Targaryen VI, ruining the North Remembers and Dorne plot, forgetting about most of the important characters in the series for a whole season like Bran and Rickon), tried watching bits of Season Six and reconsidered coming back to the show, then Season Seven just ruined it.

The show has turned into a fairytale-esque pile of shite, too afraid to kill off its key characters and follow the source material properly. We all know how it's going to end; Jon and Daenerys are going to fall in love, sacrifice themselves to destroy the White Walkers, Tyrion and Sansa will abolish the Iron Throne and rule over a system of democracy across the Seven Kingdoms, because that's the angle that D&D have been setting up for last season. And it's going to be even shittier....

@TheGoddamnPeel - well that's new. Someone actually quit game of thrones. This isn't walking dead where the quality took a major nose dive. Game of thrones never purported to follow the books page by page. And I don't think it's going to quite end how they've led us to suspect
