GAME OF THRONES Premiere Pics... and a Possible Movie?

Recently, at a fan meet and greet at the National Air and Space Museum, George RR Martin hinted that there COULD be a film (or films) wrapping up the Game of Thrones series on HBO. Plus, photos from the premiere! Hit the jump!

Last week, the premiere for the fourth season of HBO's "A Game of Thrones" was held at Barclay's Center in New York, and afterwards, there was a gala at the National Air and Space Museum, where author George RR Martin stated:

"It all depends on how long the main series runs," Martin told The Hollywood Reporter on Wednesday following the season-four premiere of the hit HBO series in New York. "Do we run for seven years? Do we run for eight? Do we run for 10? The books get bigger and bigger (in scope). It might need a feature to tie things up, something with a feature budget, like $100 million for two hours. Those dragons get real big, you know."

If this turns out to be true, this will be the first time that a television series with the premise of a continual narrative wraps up on the big screen. It makes sense, in some ways, for the final parts of the story to move to the big screen, as those who have read "A Dance with Dragons" and who are anticipating "Winds of Winter" know.

But with the Byzantine nature of the story, could it actually be wrapped up in three films? Or is the nature of television series, where intricate storylines can play out over a season, better suited with the short attention spans of today's film audiences taken into account? Anyways, since George RR Martin is still working hard (*cough cough* still dragging his feet *cough cough*) to finish Winds of Winter, those decisions are in early discussion phases, so we shall burn that bridge when we cross it, shall we?

Meanwhile, let's see some of the cast of A Game of Thrones at the events heralding the opening episodes of the fourth season of the critically- and fan-acclaimed series:

Sibel Kikilli (Shae), John Bradley (Samwell Tarly), Kristian Nairn (Hodor), Maisie Williams (Arya Stark) and Robert RR Martin

Peter Dinklage (Tyrion Lannister) and his wife Erica Schmidt (Lucky Man!)

Alfie Allen (Theon Greyjoy)

Believe it or not, Brienne of Tarth! (Gwendoline Christie)

Rose Leslie (Ygritte) - "You know nothin', Jon Snoooow!"

Emilia Clarke (Daenerys Targaryen), Peter Dinklage (Tyrion Lannister), Creator David Benoiff, Creator Dan Weiss, Lena Headey (Cersei Lannister), Jack Gleeson (Joffrey Baratheon) and Michael Lombardo.

Sophie Tucker (Sansa Stark)

Emilia Clarke (Daenerys Targaryen)

Sophie Tucker and Maisie Williams (Arya Stark) - Sisters will be sisters!

Carice van Houten (Melisandre) - C'mon, you didn't have to pull that up!!

Sibel Kekilli (Shae)

Peter Dinklage and Erica Schmidt

Liam Cunningham (Davos Seaworthy "The Onion Knight")

Aiden Gillan (Peter "Littlefinger" Baelish) - Doctor Strange???? Whaddayathink??

Okay. So, discuss, flame, attack, defend, riposte, jab, slam, just be nice to the ladies, lads. En Garde!

"Encouraged by the Red Wedding slaughter in the Riverlands that wiped out many of their Stark nemeses, the Lannisters’ hold on the Iron Throne remains intact … but can they survive their own egos, as well as new and ongoing threats from the south, north and east? While an unbowed Stannis Baratheon continues to rebuild his army in Dragonstone, a more immediate danger comes from the south, as Oberyn Martell, the Lannister-loathing “Red Viper of Dorne,” arrives at King’s Landing to attend Joffrey’s wedding to Margaery Tyrell, and perhaps act on an ulterior agenda. In the north, a depleted Night’s Watch seems overmatched against the inexorable Wall advances of Mance Rayder’s army of wildlings, which in turn is being trailed by an even more formidable foe: the undead White Walkers. As if that weren’t enough, Daenerys Targaryen, accompanied by her menacing trio of dragons and army of Unsullied, is poised to liberate Meereen, the largest city in Slaver’s Bay, which could ultimately provide her with enough ships to sail to Westeros and reclaim the Iron Throne."

In terms of a TV series being continued with a movie(s)? I dont believe you're correct...

It should be 7 seasons, for all 7 books. Then finish with a feature film.

Damn, those ladies clean-up nicely...Emilia actually doesn't look that great there, of course, completely 'relatively' speaking...

With that said, love this show! I would definitely enjoy seeing more of this universe with a little less talking and plotting, especially if they entertain more of the mythology and possibly the past. Regardless, the wait is killing me.

No, Keef, a TV series' continuous narrative CONCLUDED in a film.

There's a difference.

@bropous
Indeed, I was confusing an anime with a live-action series. My proverbial B. Anime does it a lot.

I recently finished reading book 4 and was actually surprised how much I enjoyed it, despite how different it was. I guess I found some of the new perspectives really fresh, though I gotta admit that reading a bunch of chapters with NOTHING happening in them was becoming a bit tedious.

Charlie, I LOVED the fourth and fifth books, but I just don't see any single book as different from the others as it is a continual story.

I've said before, I skimmed through a lot of the Iron Islands politics and the internal Sand Snakes squabbling, butt the story advanced really well throughout the books.

Perhaps I'll make a thread where people who have read the books already can discuss the story through the end of Dance of Dragons.

Season five could easily be a condensed version of both books four and five. I'll avoid spoilers, but the nature of the two books means that some elements will definitely need to be taken from both in order to suit the television narrative. Going one step further and simply combining the entire plots of both wouldn't be entirely implausible, even if that puts pressure on Martin to release the last two books.

Martin retracted the GOT-movie statement later so do't get your hopes up.
