WATCHMEN: Concept Art From Paul Greengrass' Scrapped Movie Reveals Fresh Takes On Rorschach And Dr. Manhattan

Director Paul Greengrass was once attached to take the helm of a Watchmen movie, and we now have concept art revealing what his take on characters like Dr. Manhattan and Rorschach might have looked like...

Bourne director Paul Greengrass has yet to tackle a superhero movie, but he recently revealed that he was indeed in talks to helm Fox's planned X-Men/Fantastic Four crossover which was set to include characters like Deadpool and Daredevil. That didn't pan out, and neither did the filmmaker's plans to take the helm of a Watchmen adaptation.

Recently, Greengrass revealed that, "I wanted to believe these characters lived in the real world and that a lot of what they were thinking and doing was delusional. There was something in Joker that had [a similar] quality to it."

Now, some concept art from his vision for Watchmen has been revealed, and it's definitely grounded. Shared by artist Adam Brockbank, we see that while Rorschach has his familiar mask, he's looking a little bulkier, and perhaps more like someone from the present day than the 1980s.

We also see Brockbank's take on Dr. Manhattan, and while he's still on Mars, the character looks at least a little different here.

Zack Snyder ultimately took the helm of Watchmen, delivering a movie that (mostly) adhered strictly to Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons' graphic novel. It received mixed reviews from critics, but likely would have fared better now comic book adaptations are more commonplace.

Check out this concept art from the Watchmen movie that never happened below:

Well. That sounds like a terrible take on it

@Twenty23Three - how? Thats what the original watchmen did, imagining what a world with superheroes would actually be like. This is basically just modernizing the concept.

@Origame - he say a lot of what the characters do is delusional like in the joker. Nothing in the book was delusions. It all happened

@Twenty23Three - I think they meant "delusional" as in "who in their right mind thinks the solution to all these problems is to dress up in a costume and beat the shit out of people?" not "delusional" as in "none of the events of the story happened and they imagined it all".

@Twenty23Three - thats not what he's saying. Its delusional as in joker thought shooting this guy was a good idea.

@contrast - right, but you can see how the wording could be read either way

was this the version of the movie that would have ended with the characters in time square, being people in costumes, and kids reading a comic that their costumes are based on

Could work but based on the concept art, seems like he may have been taking the material too seriously, Watchmen is also part satire

That seemed like a horrible way to go.

Sounds like something the Bourne director would do. Looks okay, and could've been an interesting take
