The film is scheduled to be released either July 21st/28th (the date has yet to be finalised) in the US and according to amazon.co.uk, the 27th in Britain (though this again has not yet been finalised).

In an unprecedented move, Warners will sync “friend” networks on Facebook with the community screening features on Warners’ Blu-ray releases for the Director’s Cut. The resultant combination of the BD-Live and Facebook features will allow individuals to join with their friends for community viewings of the movie during which they can share comments.

In addition, the Blu-ray Director’s Cut will include “Warner Bros. Maximum Movie Mode,” which will allow for a split-screen viewing of Watchmen, showing both the regular version of the film as well as elements of director Zack Snyder’s on-camera commentary.

Regular and Blu-ray versions of the film will be released simultaneously, with no bonus features on the standard disc version, while the Director’s Cut will include a second disc loaded with extras.

Watchmen will be released on digital platforms simultaneously, including On Demand, PPV, Xbox360 and PlayStation 3. The Director’s Cut versions of the film will see same-date release on iTunes and Amazon on Demand.

I think this movie will have the status that Blade Runner got. Kind of a cult classic, but later, culturally recognized as a film ahead of its time...

Of Course, my opinion is biased....

What I was hoping for was a version of the movie with all the animated Black Freighter stuff added in. I think if they did that it could be a 4 hour masterpiece.

longbowhunter - I heard they were doing that but we will have to wait for it. That translates into "give us your money for the two separate and then we'll sell you both together later on!"

I know I'll get slammed for admitting this but what the hell! I didn't see it in theaters! The reason is double-barrelled. Part of it was that when I see it I want it to be it's full glory (ie - this extended cut) and the other part was the timing of the release - there were some personal family issues going on.

I can't wait for this directors cut release! It will have the honer of being my 1st Blu-Ray purchase!

Yeah, I'll wait for the "Ultimate, Extreme, Director's Cut, Special Edition" when it comes out in December.
(That'll be the one with the "Black Freightor" story added in, AND it makes toast!)

i wouldnt want a cut with the black freighter animation mixed in-it would annoy me interupting the live action movie all the time (although black freighter was a good part of the graphic novel i also found it irritating when it cut into the main story) ill be happyto have the above blu ray version!

@ TucsonRican

Nope its not biased... I love the Watchman to.
Warner Brothers are awesome when it comes to marketing their stuff, totally love that they respect older classic movies such as alfred hitchcocks birds, and benhur, or even casablanca.

I mean they re-release with extras that we havent even seen because they respect us, and they appreciate the fans. Their NOT FOX, their not Liongates, or even Tristar.

I cant wait! BLURAY!!!! Woohoo! I have the ultimate Blade runner 6 disc cut, on blueray...love it!

LEEE777-yeah, a choice would be good as long as they dont release it a few months later than the above version then expect everyone to buy it again just for a few extras they didnt include the first time round!

there are so, so, so many scenes i cant wait to see in HD! thank u PS3 for putting in a blu ray player!!!

I'm confused. Does the directors cut come with the regular theatrical version or not? I dont want to shell out the cash for a cut that probably isn't as good as the original.

I'm gutted I didn't get to see this in the cinema! I'm a big fan of the graphic novel, and think it would've rocked, and rocked hard, on the big screen... *sigh* Looking forward to seeing it when it's released on DVD though. :)
