AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. Has Officially Been Renewed For An Abbreviated Sixth Season

Many fans seemed certain that Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. would finish its run with this current fifth season, but it's now been announced that ABC has renewed the show for another batch of episodes.

It was a close call, ABC has officially announced that Coulson and co. will return for a sixth season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. - albeit a considerably shorter than usual one.

The network has handed out an abbreviated 13-episode sixth season renewal for the Marvel TV series, the season 5 finale of which is set to air on May 18.

Despite waning ratings, S.H.I.E.L.D. continues to be a strong DVR gainer and an even stronger international seller for ABC. That said, this next season will almost certainly be the last one unless the show sees a dramatic spike in viewership.

This is obviously great news for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s loyal fanbase, but do any of you think that the show has run its course? Drop us a comment in the usual place.

13 episodes are not a good omen. Maybe a worthy ending, even if it's the end.

@Repian - I prefer 13 episode seasons

With 22 episodes, there’s too much filter & villain of the week episodes.

With 13, you can cut the filter out & have a more focused season.

I wish more shows did 13

@LEVITIKUZ - But SHIELD hasn't really had filler/villain of the week episodes for a loooong time now.

@GoldGuy - I agree. That is what I enjoy best about AoS compared to the other CB shows. Thats what makes it stand out. The writing is the best on TV with a continuously evolving narrative, no fillers, while also having major reveals and stingers each week. Amazing writing on this show.

That's great! A little disappointing considering the shorter schedule, because I feel like AoS (when compared to other CB shows out there) has ZERO filler episodes. The writers have been very good writing compelling storylines that pace well throughout the entire season with major reveals and stingers in each episode.

@tugboy - I couldn't agree more. Its freaking awesome that its renewed, but a you said, a little disappointing that the season will be shorter because SHIELD handles a full season better than any other comic book show out there.

Gotta admit I wasn’t expecting this, but great news for sure!
Shame it’s cut so short as AoS is the best CB show at actually filling a season, but we should still get one, solid final pod

Good. a 13-episode season is just what they need.
