AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. Star Chloe Bennet Urges People Not To Call COVID-19 The "Chinese Virus"

Asian-American actress Chloe Bennet has taken to social media to urge people to stop referring to COVID-19 as the "Chinese Virus," a term which President Donald Trump has popularised in recent days!

Recently, COVID-19/the coronavirus has been branded the "Chinese virus." Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. star Chloe Bennet - the Marvel Cinematic Universe's first Asian-American superhero before Shang-Chi - has used her Instagram account to urge people not to use the term because the actress believes it is both unacceptable and xenophobic.

In the post, Bennet addresses her experiences with racism, and explains how family and friends are left feeling ashamed and afraid for something that's not their fault in any way, shape, or form.

The beautiful S.H.I.E.L.D. agent adds that this "Chinese virus" rhetoric will, "fuel hate and create a breeding ground for bigotry and racism." Unfortunately, as of today, it seems that her argument has fallen on deaf ears.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. creator Maurissa Tancharoen has also weighed in, adding: "Asians around the world are experiencing racism in the wake of the Coronavirus, and hatred and violence are only encouraged when people in positions of power refer to it as the "Chinese Virus." Let's call it what it is, a global pandemic, and let's unify in support of our phenomenal Asian community when others in leadership are unwilling to do so. Be kind, wash your hands, and stay strong."
