Could Agent Grant Ward become The Punisher?

Could Agent Grant Ward become The Punisher?

Here's a theory that I have about the future of the Agents of SHIELD character.

This may be a bit of a stretch, but just hear me out. On last night’s episode of Agents of SHIELD, Simmons was infected by a Chitauri virus that was going to kill her. Agent Grant Ward was watching her on a camera feed as she tried to find a cure, Skye then shows up and talks with Ward. While they’re talking Ward says “I wanted it to be a person. Some super-powered psychopath, someone I can hurt, someone I can…punish…that I can do.” You can watch the scene here at 26:10 http://watchabc.go.com/marvels-agents-of-shield/SH55300807/VDKA0_a4pen2s9/fzzt

He could have said anything, but he said “punish”, and the way he said it made the word stick out, almost as if they wanted us to remember that word.

I think they could TOTALLY do this. They could say that Grant Ward is just his alias and his real name is Frank Castle, he’s special ops so that’s very plausible. In a possible spin-off, or even if they want to make him The Punisher later in the series, they could show him take some time off to go on a picnic in Central Park with his family, and then all of the horror will go down and he’ll become The Punisher. Plus, the guy looks just like Frank, have him get some scars on his face from Central Park, and he’ll look perfect.

So do you guys have any thoughts?

Doubt it.

Honestly... I like this idea A LOT!

But I still feel like Karl Urban would be a great Punisher.

Great idea! So, not only could Skye be Spider-Woman but now Grant could be Punisher! Looks like we're gearing up to have a full-fledged superhero team on the small screen.

This is a really good idea! Aw, man, now I'll be dissappointed if they don't do this...

Thanks for the spoiler warning.

Haven't seen the last episode it didn't air in the UK last week.

Don't think so. In my opinion Punisher should be older, he should be in the third Captain America movie as a villain/later team up
JohnnyRoss

Cool idea, but he doesn't seem like the Punisher to me.

Idk if it's his age or just the way he looks...but I think it would be cool if they did it.

Why not just turn the whole cast into famous heroes?

@JohnnyRoss wouldn't be surprised if it turns out that way!

I like it, but probably won't happen.

Well there is the issue of how Coulson mentioned something about Grants family background...Im hoping they shed some light on that soon, whether it has something to do with The Punisher or not?

I like where your going with this. It's an interesting idea..but I think it would be better if done differently.
I like idea of The Punisher being introduced via S.H.E.I.L.D, but I think Frank Castle should be introduced in a movie. He could be a S.H.E.I.L.D. agent, maybe even one in CA:TWS. The events of the movie and specifically the corruption and lies through the organization (if that's where they are gonna go in the movie). This could cause him to leave S.H.E.I.L.D. and be an ex agent instead of an ex cop. This would introduce him and connect him to the MCU. He could than go on (tv services or film) and show his journey to finally becoming the Punisher.
Down the road when S.H.E.I.L.D gets there act back together they could try to recruit him. I would have him say no being the badass he is...at least in the beginning.

I thought the exact same thing when I watched the episode. The word "punish" sticks out when he says it. I could totally see Ward as a young Frank Castle and eventual Punisher. GREAT THEORY!

Punisher should really only show up in Cap movies - preferably as a villain.

He is a totally asshole in terms of characters and not to be trusted but I could see him teaming up with Steve Rogers but ultimately taking a different path after they work together.

Kind of like the Loki/Thor relationship but with Agents.

Yeah not so much, this guy is too much of a pussy to be the Punisher! Punisher would never join SHIELD either!

@fangz

calm down. Ward would obviously be Castle before the tragic events that turned him into Punisher. So he's allowed to flirt and care about people and all that.

I don't believe it will happen at all, but I actually had the same thought during the most recent episode.

Either way I want a punisher HBO series. Dark gritty and horrid.

i think it's a possibility - even if you accept what fangz mentioned above.
he isn't The Punisher right now the same way that Skye isn't Spiderwoman right now. There's room for the characters on the show to develop into the comic counterparts they're being thought to be.

what we do know is that Ward has a strange family history and has put a lot of that behind him due to past trauma. not saying that makes him the punisher, but its certainly a solid profile. things can continue happening to him throughout the show that make him into The Punisher.
it could happen.

The first episode of shield sucked BUT in the begining, the violence that Ward beats the men in the hotel room with is ALMOST jason bourne quality. It was a glimps of what the show will be and who the character is.

I think this is kind of a stretch. I think that they could have the Punisher on the show but not Agent Ward. The Punisher is too badass to waste on being a generic Shield.

i wouldnt mind that at all... great thinking!
jojofmd
jojofmd - 11/9/2013, 6:48 AM
Good idea. I think it was just a nod to the comics but if he became him it would be interesting. This would have to be way before that happened. I would agree with fangz that Punisher is a deplorable person and his only motivation is to kill and punish criminals. That in a sense is his addiction and he hates himself for it, but he can't stop.

I say no. Give Tom Jane another chance. Dirty Laundry was so good.

Frank Castle isn't a pretty boy. Hell he's more grizzled than Bruce Wayne. This guy in AOS sucks so incredibly bad. I'm kinda surprised this show wasn't on the CW. Maybe it's on ABC because it's completely elementary grade plot dev and humor... THERE'S A THEORY! Once Marvel abandons this cutesy BS then their comic book fans will flock and they will build an audience. SHEILD is supposed to be more bad ass than NCIS; not a slapstick Gossip Girl version of Austin Powers.

It would be cool if he was The Punisher but that's kind of stretching it just a little.
