DAREDEVIL Showrunner Talks Rating, Elektra, Punisher, THE DEFENDERS And More

While he's still being careful not to give too much away, Daredevil showrunner Steven DeKnight offers some insight into the Netflix series from Marvel. As well as endorsing a certain Arrow actress as Elektra, he also talks about the show's "PG-16" rating and much more...

Daredevil showrunner Steven DeKnight has been back on Twitter today answering fan questions, and while he's still not being too specific with his answers, there are a lot of interesting details here. As well as confirming that Matt Murdock's Catholicism will play a role in the Netflix series, he also weighs in on which other characters he would like to bring to the small screen and even agrees with one fan's pick for Elektra (and it's a name which will be very familiar to Arrow fans). There's more talk of Daredevil being a "gritty" series, though the mention of a "PG-16" rating should come as welcome news to a lot of fans. It's also seemingly clear that The Defenders must be in the very early stages of development and likely a good few years away. Thoughts?

Katrina Law is incredibly beautiful, but I would rather they cast an unknown Greek actress in the role.

" is there an explanation for why MCU HK is a 1980s anachronism?"
Answer: Real life HK doesn't have to deal with Wilson Fisk.

@BatmanIsBaddest What Jollem said. The person is asking why Hell's Kitchen has a 1980's feel to it, even though the show takes place in present day.

I believe HK stands for Hell's Kitchen. But I don't know what he means by the question.

@JoJo1982- The first tweet he says it's not R/NC-17 rating. The next tweet he says it's PG-16-ish. Meaning it doesn't quite qualify for the R rating but that it comes real close. How is it that hard to understand?

OOOOOH Thanks y'all! Yeah it's funny how it's gonna be a complete ghetto on Netflix and in reality it's super trendy with a huge gay population. *cut to Daredevil having a mimosa*

@homodrome- [translation] "Is there an explanation for why the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Hells Kitchen feels like it's still in the 1980s?"

Anachronism-a thing belonging or appropriate to a period other than that in which it exists, especially a thing that is conspicuously old-fashioned.
mgeoff88
mgeoff88 - 11/2/2014, 8:38 PM
It's kind of confusing, because HK is the abbreviation for Hong Kong. In this case, it's pertaining to Hell's Kitchen.

This show is gonna be the SHIT! SO [frick]ing excited.

I am betting good money on us getting 2 series a year. DD started pre-production etc around May and is due out in May. Jessica Jones's writing room opened late September so bet she'll debut Fall 2015 and then 2016 we get Luke Cage and Iron Fist and Defenders drops the middle of Fall 2017 to give everyone a chance to catch up.

Defenders make a cameos in Avengers Infinity War I. Jessica Jones plays a small role in Captain Marvel. 2019 Daredevil and Jessica Jones get 2nd seasons, 2020 Heroes for Hire unites Luke Cage n Iron Fist. Think of the level of crime and discord in Hell's Kitchen after Thanos nearly ends existence. Punisher debuts late 2020 early 2021 followed by Defenders II.

I'll just be over here fapping.

@Inhuman A Hellstorm show would be an amazing counter to Constantine. Plus, he's a known member of the Defenders.

HK - Hell's Kitchen - in real life is a lot safer now than it was in the 1960s / '70s / '80s -- during DD's heyday in the comics. So the question, rephrased, was: "Is there a reason why they are portraying Hell's Kitchen as if it was still stuck in the '80s and still just as dangerous, instead of the gentrified neighborhood it has really become in the past few decades?"
