DAREDEVIL: BORN AGAIN Star Charlie Cox Says Deborah Ann Woll And Elden Henson Were "Heartbeat" Of Series

Daredevil: Born Again star Charlie Cox has revealed how important Deborah Ann Woll and Elden Henson were to the original Daredevil series, admitting that he's unsure whether either will return on Disney+.

There's a tremendous amount of excitement for Disney+'s Daredevil: Born Again, and while we know Charlie Cox and Vincent D'Onofrio will take centre stage as Matt Murdock and The Kingpin, plans for the supporting cast are less clear.

The series is expected to be a fresh start for the Man Without Fear in the MCU, shifting the focus to street-level crimes in a shared world that's primarily been about world-ending threats. Daredevil ran for three seasons on Netflix, and while that show will influence what we see in the eighteen-episode follow-up, we're expecting it to be more of a reboot than a sequel.

What does that mean for characters like Foggy Nelson and Karen Page?

They were played by Elden Henson and Deborah Ann Woll, with both proving pivotal to Matt's journey. Daredevil: Born Again could likely manage without the latter as 'ol Hornhead has had many love interests over the years, but no Foggy? That would be a real shame.

Talking at German Comic Con Winter Edition, Charlie Cox weighed in on Matt's relationships with Karen and Foggy, saying: "With Matt Murdock, I don't think it gets more deep than Karen Page, and shout out to the wonderful Deborah Ann Woll, who's just amazing."

"I was saying this to [Elden Henson] yesterday...I don't know what's going to happen with the other characters in the new show, but I know for a fact that Elden and Deborah were the heartbeat of what we did before and the show is a success because of them."

Seeing as Cox views his old co-stars with such reverence, it's hard to imagine Marvel Studios not giving at least some thought to bringing them back. There have been rumblings about Henson signing up to return, so we definitely expect to see more Foggy. In Woll's case, we'd imagine she'll at least return for a cameo as Karen. Time will tell, though.

Daredevil: Born Again is set to premiere on Disney+ sometime in 2024.

I hope they come back. I mean, you can't make a DD show without Foggy, that's for sure... but Deborah's KAren Page was fantastic too. I know many hated the time that was alloted to her character in the Netflix show, but having recently rewatched all three seasons... Dude, the attention to the development of the side characters was one of the many reasons the Netflix show was so far above in quality from anything the MCU has released in D+ thus far.

@Franshu - I could not agree more, the writing and acting is just so good in the shows. You can see right into their souls.

I know Marvel, sometimes out of necessity, will veer off from the comics, but with these two particular characters it seems ludicrous to even think of not having them return. And they definitely don't need to be recast. I don't think that Marvel would be that stupid, but as I always say, time will tell.

Born Again as a title along with the fact it’s fallout from the multiverse saga, means anything is possible. I hope they return and have gone through all of the drama of figuring out Matt is Daredevil. They definitely don’t need as much screen time as before. Certain courtroom dramas can be interesting, I like Foggy, but Karen was everywhere in that series.

@Saintsinnister - We don't know if it's a fallout from the multiverse saga, since Kevin said the street-level stuff will be different.

I think overall they'll keep the previous continuity but just not explain a few things like why X character is here and not in prison or something.

I really hope they come back. I would like them to change things up with both though in this new interpretation - Foggy was written a little too whiney at times in the Netflix run so I'd like him to move on from that trait.

And as for Karen, I know in the comics her and Matt's relationship came to a very bleak end, but seeing as Season 3 of the Netflix show subverted that storyline and Disney probably won't delve into drug addiction and everything else Karen went through in the comics, I kinda hope when we next see her they establish that she and Matt have broken up because of the burden Daredevil has on their lives. Would also make him hooking up with She-Hulk make more sense.

I watched it for Daredevil and Kingpin, that's what made me watch the show, Kingpin stole every scene he was in.

he is the LEAD actor of the show, cant he really do anything to bring them back, pushing the execs and Feige?

sorry, Charlie, but dont buy it. He has some power and definetly a say, so he better pushes and supports his castmates. If the new show is somehow a continuation, both actors MUST be back. period.

@gambgel - Doesn’t work that way.

But based on how he answered this, I’d take it as a good sign.

More Marvel secrecy bullshit! Of course Cox knows. And because he's lying, it means they are signed.

I agree with Charlie. I also think both characters grew as the series progressed.

He's close to the actors so I get it but I disagree.

Both of them started giving me "CW Show supporting actor" vibes towards the end.
Just constantly whining and moaning at the protagonist for being a vigilante and helping people. Diggle and Felicity vibes.

I wouldn't be upset if they recast

I be really happy to see the whole cast back again, especially Elodie Yung, Scott Glenn, and of course Deborah Ann Woll.

To not bring them back could feel like a stab to the fanbase. Let them return ASAP.
