Work is now well underway on Daredevil: Born Again, and to say excitement is through the roof might be an understatement. Along with the returns of Charlie Cox and Vincent D'Onofrio as Matt Murdock and The Kingpin, we recently learned that Jon Bernthal will reprise his role as The Punisher.
While we all remain eager to find out whether characters like Bullseye and Elektra will also factor into the series, the Disney+ series is definitely shaping up to be something special.
Talking to Newsweek, D'Onofrio dropped quite the bombshell when he confirmed that a second season is also on the way!
"The show is going to be very, very different than the Netflix show, and it's so exciting because what we're doing is quite something," the actor started. "I think it's something that people are not going to expect."
Explaining that the comic books are key in the story being told in Daredevil: Born Again, D'Onofrio added: "[We're giving the fans] what they want but try to be original in some way at the same time, and so that's what we're doing on the show. It's definitely an original way to look at this, and it's really deep, really emotional."
"By the second season, there are gigantic, gigantic payoffs -in the first season, too, but I can't say much about that - but the fans are gonna really get what they want. It's really quite cool to be doing it."
A second season?
Marvel Studios has only confirmed plans for 18 episodes of Daredevil: Born Again, but a number of reliable scoopers are already chiming on on Twitter to reiterate past claims that the show is being split in two. So, rather than getting 18 episodes over 18 weeks, it seems we can expect two lots of 9 (though we've also heard about it possibly being three lots of 6).
This makes sense given the change in approach to delivering MCU content on Disney+, and could mean "season 2" isn't released until 2025. Then again, we might actually be getting a second season! We'll see.
Elsewhere in the interview, D'Onofrio heaped praise on Punisher actor Jon Bernthal and confirmed his co-star will play "a major part [in] the show."
