DAREDEVIL: BORN AGAIN Star Vincent D'Onofrio Confirms Season 2 Plans; Teases The Punisher's "Major" Role

Daredevil: Born Again star Vincent D'Onofrio has confirmed in a new interview that the show will receive a second season, but is there more to the story than that? Find the Kingpin actor's comments here...

Work is now well underway on Daredevil: Born Again, and to say excitement is through the roof might be an understatement. Along with the returns of Charlie Cox and Vincent D'Onofrio as Matt Murdock and The Kingpin, we recently learned that Jon Bernthal will reprise his role as The Punisher.

While we all remain eager to find out whether characters like Bullseye and Elektra will also factor into the series, the Disney+ series is definitely shaping up to be something special.

Talking to Newsweek, D'Onofrio dropped quite the bombshell when he confirmed that a second season is also on the way!

"The show is going to be very, very different than the Netflix show, and it's so exciting because what we're doing is quite something," the actor started. "I think it's something that people are not going to expect."

Explaining that the comic books are key in the story being told in Daredevil: Born Again, D'Onofrio added: "[We're giving the fans] what they want but try to be original in some way at the same time, and so that's what we're doing on the show. It's definitely an original way to look at this, and it's really deep, really emotional."

"By the second season, there are gigantic, gigantic payoffs -in the first season, too, but I can't say much about that - but the fans are gonna really get what they want. It's really quite cool to be doing it."

A second season?

Marvel Studios has only confirmed plans for 18 episodes of Daredevil: Born Again, but a number of reliable scoopers are already chiming on on Twitter to reiterate past claims that the show is being split in two. So, rather than getting 18 episodes over 18 weeks, it seems we can expect two lots of 9 (though we've also heard about it possibly being three lots of 6).

This makes sense given the change in approach to delivering MCU content on Disney+, and could mean "season 2" isn't released until 2025. Then again, we might actually be getting a second season! We'll see.

Elsewhere in the interview, D'Onofrio heaped praise on Punisher actor Jon Bernthal and confirmed his co-star will play "a major part [in] the show."

Are you excited to see what Marvel Studios has planned for these characters in the MCU?

The fact they’re confident in a second season already says a lot.

@PlusUltra - the fact he is confident says more to me. I trust he knows a good thing. I hope. I don't think he would willfully be on board with apparently multiple seasons of a show he already made unless there was fun toys he wanted to play with.

@PlusUltra - I think they are splitting the 18 episodes into two seasons.

They're so confident in the series they already have season 2 planned? That's some ambition right there. I'm curious how everything is gonna play out, I know it won't live up to the OG but there's a lot of chances to do something new with the material.

@FilmGuy7878 - You know it won’t? What stocks should I buy. I mean I am worried that it won’t be as good as the Netflix show but there’s always hope.

@marvel72 - I want Punisher to go full Tony Montana on a f**ker and just fill him with more led then a mechanical pencil, I want Ghost Rider to puke hellfire on a guy's face and just leave his head as a charred skull, I want Blade to slice a vampire's chest in half and kick his heart out of it's torso.

In conclusion, please Fegie, make the MCU more violent.

@PlusUltra - dude, it's also produced by both Columbia pictures and pascal pictures. It's every bit a Sony movie as it is a marvel movie. In fact, moreso considering its a love letter to versions of Spiderman marvel studios had nothing to do with.

@Origame - complete idiot.

The simple fact you're faining ignorance knowing full well this is a 100% a Marvel created film far as the actual making of shows how pitiful and caught up in their feels this commuinity has become.

People are sitting here arguing with a grown rational man playing make believe. Pretending he dosen't know the only thing Sony contributed was budget.

You're sad bro. This community is turned into the biggest bunch of "i'm offended" morons of all time.

I know, I know it's unlikely but I'm just wondering how cool would that be.

And makes the entire film at there discretion. All 3 MCU Spidey films
Origame

Wouldn't be surprised if Born Again is split up in two parts, and that is what he means. 18 episodes is a lot to keep up with, especially if aired 18 weeks in a row.
String
String - 3/27/2023, 12:08 PM
@bkmeijer1 - Yeah, I agree. Daredevil just began filming, there is no way Vincent would know at this point if there were a second season coming. Think about it he would be talking about a season that would likely air 3 years from now. I believe the actor was referring to the 18 episodes being split into two 9-episode runs. Syfy & other networks (MTV did this with several seasons of Teen Wolf) split one season into two smaller pods. It's all about keeping the cost of the show down. I anticipate Disney will promote the season as Part 1 and Part 2. Disney+ knows the popularity of Daredevil so taking this tactic only spreads out the love for the character over a longer period than 4 1/2 months but perhaps an entire year to keep subscribers.
RolandD
RolandD - 3/27/2023, 7:05 PM
@bkmeijer1 - Except TV series used to have far more episodes in a season. If it’s good, I want all I can get. 😉
bkmeijer1
bkmeijer1 - 3/28/2023, 3:35 AM
@RolandD - true, but that was in the cable tv era where every show was stand-alone. This is part of a larger franchise that constantly drops new stuff on streaming and spoilers quickly fill the internet.

For you it might be doable to keep up, but for me (and I think many others) it's really not anymore. Especially 18 episodes.
