AVENGERS: ENDGAME Star Jeremy Renner Says He's "Ready" To Return As Hawkeye Following 2023 Accident

It was on New Year's Day in 2023 that Jeremy Renner was crushed by a snow plow while attempting to save his nephew, and a little over a year later, it seems he's finally ready to suit up as Clint Barton again.

There were concerns that the Avengers: Endgame and Hawkeye star might not make it, but after a lengthy recovery, he was able to return to work last month to star shooting Mayor of Kingstown season 3.

Talking to Entertainment Tonight, the actor was asked about his MCU future and confirmed, "I'm always game. I'm gonna be strong enough, that's for sure. I'll be ready."

Renner would go on to reveal that his MCU co-stars were one of his biggest sources of support as they were with him throughout the "harrowing" recovery process. "All those guys come to my bedside," he says. "They've been with me all along through this recovery, so...if they want me, they could have me. It would be something."

As for how he's doing in general, the MCU vet revealed he's "probably 90 percent of all the things I needed to be doing."

"I'll do whatever I can...whatever it takes to get better, to get stronger," Renner continued. "It's a one-way street, this recovery. The rest of my life is about health and wellness. Recovery will be part of the rest of my life, so I look forward to it, man. There's always something to do to get better, be stronger, be happier, be healthier, and that's what I look forward to."

Renner jumped onto the rolling snow plow when he noticed it sliding towards his nephew and was pulled underneath and crushed. Sustaining more than 30 broken bones, the actor underwent emergency surgery to save his life and spent the vast majority of 2023 recovering.

There's no specific word on the actor's possible MCU return, though we're not banking on Hawkeye season 2 now Kate Bishop appears to be joining the Young Avengers. Clint Barton is bound to factor into Avengers 5, though, giving Renner ample time to prepare for all those stunts.

"I can't believe I'm sitting here right now," he said later in this interview. "I'm very grateful. I'm very happy that I'm moving forward in life, and I'm happy to share this life with the amazing people who I love."

What do you hope the future holds in store for the MCU's Hawkeye?

Hawkeye man crush. And I'm not even ashamed.

I liked his Hawkeye, he was one of the few mcu characters who's character stayed consistent throughout the films. I doubt Disney will get him back, the whole point of that Kate Bishop show was to setup his replacement.

@harryba11zack - Hawkeye is that one guy that is always coming out of retirement over and over again, he'll be back.

Kinda hope that if he returns, he does so as the leader of the West Coast Avengers. Long overdue Renner/Hawkeye gets the spotlight in the movies.

The next Avengers movies are too big for one team, so I think they should divide the narrativeinto smaller teams (kinda like what IW did) : WCA with Hawkeye, New Avengers with Sam, Young Avengers with Kamela, Ultimates with Carol and Midnight Sons with Strange.

@bkmeijer1 - Think that would be the best way, I'd go as far as saying next saga make it all about team movies and most the solo adventure stuff be D+ that you don't necessarily need to watch to get full enjoyment of the team movies. Can then head towards a clash between the teams Avenger V Xmen style then revealing someone like Doom was behind pitting them all against each other for the final showdown.

MatteMan - 2/4/2024, 10:51 AM
@bkmeijer1 - I would like to see that too, but who will be on these teams? At this time, MCU is a one big mess and it will be very very hard to fix it.
bkmeijer1
bkmeijer1 - 2/4/2024, 11:04 AM
@Apophis71 - feel they're already kinda doing that, so it would be a good trend to continue. Although a few a-list characters getting big movies as well is nice to balance it out (like with Iron Man, Captain America and Thor in the Infinity Saga)
bkmeijer1
bkmeijer1 - 2/4/2024, 11:22 AM
@MatteMan - I don't even know what characters are running around the MCU, but I feel it's easy to group. So I guess:

- Avengers: Captain America, Spider-Man, Daredevil, Hulk, Echo, White Vision, Rhodey
- WCA: Hawkeye, Shang-Chi, Shuri, Ant-Man, Wasp, She-Hulk, Wonder Man
- Ultimates: Captain Marvel, Thor, Guardians, Photon, Nova, Giah
- Midnight Sons: Doctor Strange, Wong, Blade, Moon Knight, Scarlet Scarab, Black Knight, Werewolf, Man-Thing, Elsa
- Young Avengers: Kate Bishop, America Chavez, Riri, Yelena, Kamala
- Thunderbolts: Bucky, Ghost, USAgent, Red Guardian, Taskmaster

Don't see Loki really be part of any team, but instead taking on Molecule Man's role.
MatteMan
MatteMan - 2/4/2024, 12:10 PM
@bkmeijer1 - That's a very good list 👌. I would only add to Young Avengers Kid Loki (from Loki) and White Vision as mentor or something like that. BUT, there's still one problem, what I meant by MCU being a mess is that Phase 1,2,3 worked is not because the movies were good, in my opinion it worked because people cared about Characters in the first place.
Apophis71
Apophis71 - 2/4/2024, 12:53 PM
@MatteMan - For sure the issue lies heavily on making more folk care about the characters but still a chance they can fix that where it has lacked thus far. Certainly been issues but don't think it is at a point of being beyond repair if care given to strong stories and scripts in future projects that thus help address such issues.

IF they can achieve that remains to be seen however but there was a time nobody cared about Hawkeye and they turned that around I feel. ONE strong film/show well written can theoreticaly rehabilitate a character folk were previously meh about, or even hated, but only so many chances most folk will give to not even bothering to check in on them at all regardless.

Feel oft team movies with some characters can help you appreciate them more than in their solo films, for me that would go for Thor for whom I'm mostly meh about all his solo films but appreciated him in the Avenger ones. On the flipside however teamups can work against some character types and probably should have more solo's with fewer crossovers in those, that would go for Spiderman for me who was rather meh about him in his Avengers appearances but generaly liked him in his solo films and why I DO NOT want NWH2.0 and want a more street level adventure for him to evolve during into a more mature hero.
bkmeijer1
bkmeijer1 - 2/4/2024, 2:27 PM
@MatteMan - I get where you're coming from. In my opinion, the first saga worked so well because not only were the character interesting in the first place, but also their interactions were compelling.

Both lab scenes in Avengers and Age of Ultron are still amongst my favorite MCU scenes, and it's just a bunch of personalities clashing. And unfortunately, I don't see any of the character I mentioned above get into such arguments.
MatteMan
MatteMan - 2/4/2024, 3:32 PM
@bkmeijer1 - Exactly, and look, phase 1 took 4 years (which is the longest) where we were introduced us to six characters and the sixth movie is where those characters team up. Since Endgame we have almost 5 years, they introduced (including Eternals) I don't know, 20 characters? And where is the conclusion? Nobody knows and when it comes, probably Nobody will care.
bkmeijer1
bkmeijer1 - 2/4/2024, 4:57 PM
@MatteMan - that's why I'm actually looking forward to Thunderbolts. It will atleast pay off one of the threads in the MCU. And it will do so with characters that have veey different personalities, despite having similar power sets.
MatteMan
MatteMan - 2/4/2024, 5:54 PM
@bkmeijer1 - Yeah, Thunderbolts and Deadpool are the only movies at this moment I want to see, but without any expectation.
bkmeijer1
bkmeijer1 - 2/5/2024, 2:26 AM
@MatteMan - same here. I'm not gonna let (high) expectations ruin anything. Same reason I'm not reading leaks and rumours anymore. Those just set certain expectations

Glad to see that he’s in good spirits it seems…

Him surviving was truly a miracle and it seems like he has a new appreciation for life now aswell which is cool to see.

Anyway , I like him as Hawkeye & that version of the character so I would be down to see him again…

Having him be the mentor & “the den mother” of the Young Avengers couid be fun since he’s a parent himself.

His return will be absolutely welcomed! Cap & Hawkeye have always been two of my favorite MCU Avengers. The Hawkeye series was a blast, and great for the holidays. And especially after that series, Barton is in a position where they can lessen the amount that he needs to do, but I imagine Renner will still want to deliver the highest he can. I would be rather upset if we don't get a reunion between the three remaining original Avengers (Barton, Thor, Hulk) before they call it quits.

I can’t see him doing any stunts, even the easy ones, it’s only been a year. I would like to see him show up helping Kate Bishop and Yelena or even helping the Thunderbolts out in a quick save, but let the stunt man do all the heavy lifting.

I’d like to see him return, maybe in the next Avengers movie.

I’m glad he recovered. Fantastic actor and all around good guy. I do however, hope that if they bring him back, he will face a life-threatening injury, recover, and retire to be with his family. Give the hero a rest and happy ending.

Maybe help Fury in an administrative position to recruit a new set of Avengers or even West Coast Avengers

Very happy that he pulled through and had all the help he could get to not give up. This is truly one of those things we could call a miracle.

No pressure in when he's ready to come back, it's all good. When it's time, I'll be there for Hawkeye's return.
