Dominique Thorne's Riri Williams will make her MCU debut in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever later this year before blasting into her own Disney+ show, Ironheart. That series has begun to round out its cast, including In The Heights and Hamilton star Anthony Ramos as its villain, and he's suggested filmmaker Ryan Coogler will follow Ironheart from the Black Panther franchise to her show.
"I’m excited. I’m so excited," Ramos says in the video below. "I used to be like in the gym, I’d be like, 'Come on Marvel call, come on Marvel call, let’s go!' That’s what we hope for. I feel blessed. It’s an amazing project. Incredible people, Chinaka Hodge and Ryan Coogler, and just like a dope squad, Dominique Thorne and I feel blessed and grateful."
Hodge has been tapped as Ironheart's Head Writer, so we're assuming Coogler is either writing episodes, directing some of them, producing, or all of the above! Last February, Disney inked a five-year TV deal with Coogler's Proximity Media label, so it's looking like this series will be part of that.
It makes sense for Coogler to help tell Riri's story if he's the one bringing her into this world, and the show is definitely shaping up to be an important chapter in the MCU mythos. Considering Ironheart is basically going to be this world's new Iron Man, that's not really surprising, and we're anticipating the hero's series also setting the stage for Armor Wars starring MCU vet Don Cheadle.
Ironheart is expected to premiere on Disney+ sometime in 2023.
