Screenwriter Ben Ramsey Talks Any Further Luke Cage Involvement!

The screenwriter for Marvel Studios' long-productive adaption of Luke Cage, speaks briefly on any involvement after all these years + snagging who he'd snag for the role! Check it out!

While Marvel Studios are hard at work in adapting Thor, Captain America, and an eventual Avengers flick, there are several heroes, who though have been in production for years, have yet to make it to the big-screen.

With Ant-Man, Black Panther, and Doctor Strange among others, I'm most anticipating Power Man, better known as Luke Cage. With Shaft director John Singleton attached since 2004, and Transformers' Tyrese Gibson signed on in '05, screenwriter Ben Ramsey has been involved since 2003. And in a recent interview with Scott's Section, Ramsey offers any current involvement.

You're listed as one of the writers of the upcoming Luke Cage movie. Can you tell us a bit about that, or is that still under wraps at this point?
"I can't tell you much about it, because I don't know anything about it (laughs). I wrote that thing over six years ago. It heated up for a minute. John Singleton was always attached to it. I came in and did a draft. Everybody liked it. Marvel liked it. Columbia pictures liked it. John liked it. So me and John worked on it for a while and got another draft going. Then all of a sudden it just went into development hell. So where it stands now I have no idea. I haven't been involved with the project. Nobody's called me on it. I hear it's back with Marvel now. They have all the rights."

Marvel needs to get you & [Micheal Jai White]. Hes born for roles like that.
"Luke Cage and Micheal Jai White. How much sense does that make? Not to put anything against Tyrese. Tyrese is a great actor too. Mike already looks like a superhero."

While Ben Ramsey directed Micheal Jai White in Blood and Bone, just by looking at the trailer and past films, Micheal fits 'Luke Cage' perfectly. Though I'd take Tyrese Gibson, if White pursues Black Panther, revealing interest earlier today.

Interesting...Too bad Tom Rothman ruined his good first draft for Dragonball by making him rewrite it so many times with notes from them on what they wanted changed and one of those said changes was The Goku is High School angle.

Hope he doesn't have something like that happen to his scripts again.

i like the idea of a H4H show or movie better than a stand alone Luke Cage flick. hes just not that interesting of a character on his own. The old spice guy would make a good Cage. I mean Jai White would be awesome but he really wants Tchalla instead.

I'd rather see Isaiah Mustafa in the Luke Cage roll. I think he'd be better for setting up some of the cheesey lines Cage says.

Michael Jai White looks like Black Panther to me...He could also play a great Luke Cage.

The one problem with playing Black Panther is that we'd rarely see his face, so even though Michael Jai White looks like Black Panther, the resemblance would mostly go to waste. Although his voice-acting would be great for the part too.

Tough call on that, he could be a great Luke Cage too hmm.

Darkmatter has a point and it's a good one! Heroes for Hire tv series leaves it open for many many cameos and great stories.

@darmatter: CMB tv series always suck, so no.

I think Cage could work, however, I feel there are more interesting characters out there White could play. Example? Blade. D'uh. He's the only one besides Snipes I'd recommend for that role.

I actually had Michael Jai White as Luke Cage in one of my old fancasts. But apparently, he's too short. I wouldn't be against it, since Khary Payton's take on the character in Marvel Ultimate Alliance, has some similar vocal patterns to White.

However, like fanboy76 said, White is currently seeking the role of Black Panther (I saw his name in a fancast as the hero).

So I think Henry Simmons might be the way to go.

Why everybody want MJW? He's boo-boo as an actor and everybody wants him to play EVERY black superhero! He's like Ryan Renolds... UhhhGGG!

they really should do standalone Luke Cage & Iron Fist movies, then get the actors from the movies to do a Heroes for Hire tv show as Darkmatter & fanboy76 said. It would be fantastic and truthfully it wouldnt take much CGI to create a show like that as opposed to other superheroes

I think marvel need to see how Thor, CA and the Avengers movie do first , if they bomb what chance have fringe characters of making any impact at the cinema .

@darkmatter: Yeah, you're right. But Walking Dead is about zombies. CBMs would be more difficult because of the powers involved as well as the outfits and practicality. It could work, but I'm both skeptical and pessimistic about it. Anything can work when done correctly, but hardly anything IS done correctly, period, lol. So what can be done?

@darkmatter: If only hollywood was like that. They don't give a damn about giving real talent opportunity. When do you ever hear about a CBM nerd with talented writing get a random chance to be involved with a big project? These worms keep it in hollywood. Its about who you know, remember? Those no-talent ass clowns, lol.
