We've been hearing rumblings of a Werewolf by Night project in the works at Marvel Studios for a while now, and it looks like we now have confirmation that the lycanthropic antihero is coming to Disney+.
According to The Wrap, a Marvel Halloween Special is being developed for the streaming service, with a Latino actor in his 30s being sought to play the lead. Though they don't seem to be 100% certain, the report adds that the character "may be based on Werewolf By Night."
This mantle has been held by two characters in the comics. The first, and arguably better-known, is Jack Russel, who debuted in the pages of Marvel Spotlight in the early '70s. More recently, a teen of Hopi and Mexican descent named Jake Gomez was introduced as a new take on the Werewolf. It's not clear who this special will take influence from, but it could end up being an amalgamation of the two or a completely new character.
An MCU Halloween Special is a great idea, and what better character to kick the spooky celebrations off with. We've heard that Werewolf By Night might also show up in the Moon Knight series, so it sounds like Marvel has big plans for the furball.
Production is expected to kick-off early next year.
